Yesterday, it was announced that all nine of Radiohead's studio albums, a live collection, a remix album, reissues, and more are now available on Bandcamp.: pitchfork.com -- "Stop Whispering" was written as a tribute to the Pixies (though Radiohead later said they missed the mark, and landed somewhere in early U2 territory)! Radiohead's Ed Obrien described this song as being “about people not standing up for their rights: Stop whispering and start shouting.” - bit.ly

This song has two likely influences: Iggy Pop and Cyrinda Foxe. Many of the lyrics reflect Iggy Pop's lifestyle and stage antics (he often slithered around on stage and cut himself). Cyrinda Foxe (Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler's first wife) was an actress who starred in commercials for Jean Genie jeans. Legend has it that Bowie wrote this in Foxe's apartment in an effort to entertain her. Foxe would go on to appear in the song's official video alongside Bowie.: bit.ly www.youtube.com

Amazing!! Hearing Pixies on The Morning Show!! -- Three different storylines are at play in "Bone Machine". Deep Sea Diver will perform at The Showbox on Friday, November 12th, 2021. -- “In the past I’d often tell myself, ‘This other person is going through something worse than I am, so their pain weighs more,’” said Jessica Dobson about this song. “‘Impossible Weight’ is about finding more compassion for yourself, instead of discrediting your pain in that way.” -- See collaborator Sharon van Etten in the video for "Impossible Weight": www.youtube.com

“Scolds bridle” discusses women’s suppression at the hands of men, which is a common theme across the "Rabbit Wench" EP. A scold’s bridle was an instrument of punishment as a form of torture and public humiliation. It was used overwhelmingly on female victims to silence them from speaking entirely. The victims were punished due to their speech being deemed “riotous” or “troublesome”. Vocalist Caitlin Elliman of this Bristol band wrote the song about her own experiences of being silenced by men and how bad that made her feel.: bit.ly

The things right in front of us that give us meaning and how sometimes, even sad songs can give you that warm feeling of hope.” bit.ly

Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas released a new funky cover of The Majestics "Funky Chick," featuring Brownout and Tomar Williams (of Tomar and the FCs). The songs themselves were recorded onto analog tape, with a few of them done entirely live in the studio - a true component to the Latin Soul sound which embraced imperfection in exchange for energy on recordings. tinyurl.com

The lyrics deal with getting a second chance ("So darn glad he let me try it again") and making the most of it. Strangely, Wonder recorded it three months before he was almost killed on his way to a benefit concert in Durham, North Carolina. The car he was riding in was behind a truck carrying a load of logs, which stopped suddenly, sending a log through the windshield and hitting Wonder in the head. The accident put Wonder in a coma for four days. His road manager and good friend, Ira Tucker Jr., knew that Stevie liked to listen to music at high volume, so he tried singing this song directly into his ear. At first he got no response, but the next day, he tried again and Wonder's fingers started moving in time with the song - the first sign that he was going to recover. Recalling his time in the coma, Wonder said, "For a few days I was definitely in a much better spiritual place that made me aware of a lot of things that concern my life and my future and what I have to do to reach another higher ground. This is like my second chance for life, to do something or to do more and to face the fact that I am alive."

Hey John, I just wanted to send you a reminder for my request of sending my boyfriend George some birthday wishes. He is such a big fan of KEXP especially of your morning show. He is listening every day and is also a donator. His birthday is tomorrow (he will be 35 years old on 22nd of October). I know he is definitely listening at 8 o‘clock so around this time would be perfect. And he is such a big fan of Nation of language because of KEXP! So maybe you could play a song from them for George. Next year we have tickets for their concert in Berlin. Thanks for supporting such amazing bands :-) Thank you so much for making KEXP so special and awesome. In September, Belfast-based producer and composer David Holmes released a new single, “Hope Is the Last Thing To Die” featuring vocalist Raven Violet. "Pays P. is a French trio that takes their cues from the likes of Sonic Youth and other experimental brooders that are as big on dynamics as they are on atmosphere. There was considerable debate between the band and producer Ben Allen about the level of the vocals on this song. Even if we want everything to be defined, we want it to all have a lot of presence and personality. Breeze is the project of Toronto-based producer, Josh Korody. "Come Around" features Canadian-American rapper Cadence Weapon (Rollie Pemberton). -- Korody said of the song, "“Come Around” is about someone that has done something horrible and has not shown any accountability or true remorse and the fear they – or have the nerve – to be able to jump back into a community that no longer feels comfortable around them. So, as I’m singing the song I’m picturing performing it live with them walking into the room and making people, especially the people closest to them, extremely uncomfortable and angry. The lyrics: ‘Yeah, you really did a number on this one’ references the trauma they imposed upon the community.: bit.ly

Hello! Just tuned in, maybe you’ve already played something by him but Matthew Sweet! Girlfriend one of my top 5 albums of all time! Released 30 years ago TODAY ---Trevor in Ottawa, Ontario -- "In October 1991, a polite singer/songwriter from Lincoln, Nebraska, named Matthew Sweet released his third album. There was no reason to believe it would be a commercial success. Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch were sucking all the oxygen out of the charts alongside Mariah Carey, and though Nevermind had just come out, Nirvana had not yet infiltrated every household in America. But Girlfriend, a mix of grungy pop and sarcastic lyrics, proved to be Sweet’s breakthrough." In 2011, Spin talked to Matthew Sweet on the (then!) 20th anniversary of "Girlfriend" www.spin.com

Hey John! My husband and I are celebrating our 22nd anniversary tomorrow and would love to hear something from The Cure (your pick). We met on AOL back in 1997 with our mutual love for the band (among other things - art, veganism) bringing us together. We even planned our honeymoon to Paris around their tour at the time and saw them twice while we were there. 🖤 Thank you! Elise and Patrick (Allentown, NJ) -- The music video was the first the band made with Tim Pope, who became their director of choice. The band felt that Pope presented the whimsical side of the band, which helped dispel the notion that they were humorless brooding goths. Australian rocker Alex Lahey says of this new rocker: "“‘Spike The Punch’ is a song about the fun that comes with self-sabotage and reckless abandon. It’s big, it’s loud, it’s fun, it’s its own beast.
