Shovels & Rope announce the February 18th release of their highly anticipated new album, Manticore (Dualtone Music). Originally planned as a stripped down, acoustic-leaning release, the songs on Manticore were written before the pandemic but recorded during.
Opening the album is the first single “Domino,”, which looks at the death of James Dean. The song finds the late actor’s ghost looking down, wondering why America still holds onto him so tightly and serves as a tongue-in-cheek commentary on how we look at celebrity in our country.
The band has announced tour dates on the East Coast, Midwest and Eurpope but none on the West Coast.

Atlanta singer-songwriter Curtis Harding has announced that his new album "If Words Were Flowers" will be out on November 5th.
The inspiration behind album's name came from a phrase Harding’s mother told him growing up – “give me my flowers while I’m still here” – which he said he viewed as a reminder to show love and appreciation for the people he cared about before it was too late.: bit.ly

On this day in 1959, Ray Charles released the album What'd I Say featuring the song of the same name, of which many consider to be the first soul song, ever, "What'd I Say."
The composition was improvised one evening late in 1958 when Charles, his orchestra, and backup singers had played their entire set list at a show and still had time left; the response from many audiences was so enthusiastic that Charles announced to his producer that he was going to record it.

This Dublin 5-piece was originally the project of brothers Daniel and Killian O’Kelly. The pair met bassist / vocalist Emma Hanlon and guitarist Peadar Kearney in college. Daniel said, “But we needed a drummer and then I bumped into Gary [Wickham]. He saw me at a Wilco concert and came up and was like, ‘Oh, I’m your new drummer now apparently.’ The whole [band] thing was very convenient because we were all friends first - well, except Gary. We pretend to be his friend. It’s just hard to find a drummer, y’know?”

As Robinson recalls in his 1989 autobiography, he and producer Al Cleveland went to a Detroit department store called Hudson's to do Christmas shopping in December 1967, where Robinson was shopping for a gift for his wife. At the jewelry counter, Smokey picked out some pearls and asked Cleveland what he thought. "I second that emotion" was his reply, and later that afternoon the pair wrote a song around the misspoken phrase.
