Morning John! It’s my birthday. And I’m 8 months sober! And I just finished 2 years of intense trauma therapy. In a pandemic. Which was either the best timing or the absolute worst.
Thanks for the music you share and the community you help build. I couldn’t imagine making this journey without KEXP.
If you have time, can you play a little Nina Simone, because I’m finally, at long last, feeling good.

Parquet Courts' forthcoming album Sympathy For Life is out 10/22 via Rough Trade and today they've shared a new single, called “Black Widow Spider.”
The band’s A Savage: “I told [producer] Rodaidh McDonald that I wanted to find a sound that was equal parts Can, Canned Heat and This Heat. He was really into that and probably took some glee in having such a bizarre challenge.”

If you could play some Kate Bush I'd LOVE that. Thanks so much for everything you dooooo; just having KEXP in my life is such a gift.

I know you already played a Nick Cave song in honor of his birthday, but I'm hoping you can play one more for my daughter. I dropped them off at college last week, which was tough. My daughter, Delaney, and I share a love of Cave's music. I bought her a record player for her dormroom and took her record shopping down in Southern California where she is going to school. They went right the the N's and picked out Skelton Tree. As great as an album that is could you play their favorite Nick Cave song, The Mercy Seat? Love you and am missing you already D! - Ryan

Just got word this week that the US border will stay closed to Canadians till at least late October, meaning we will not be able to make the trek to see My Morning Jacket in Seattle in early October.
These were supposed to be our first live shows in nearly 2 years, and we are pretty crushed -- that's just too long without the soul-soaring feeling that is seeing a band with a bunch of strangers!
Could you play something border related to help ease our pain? Maybe Border Song by Elton John?
Cheers,
Mike G in Canada

Good morning, hearing you mention your father and family that had alcohol problems struck a certain cord with me this AM. My father Robert passed this past Sunday. He had been a functioning alcoholic for almost as long as I can remember. All alcoholics have demons and faults but for all that my father was also a good man. He grew up in the Tobacco fields of rural Kentucky. He always loved Dolly Parton. If you have it, could you play Kentucky Gambler? It would make my day.
Thanks, Lawrence
