Released on this day, 26-years ago. Kill Rock Stars co-founder Slim Moon said:
"I've always felt like this record is underappreciated. A lot of people overlook Elliott's first two records—they think of them as a prelude to the bigger albums that followed—but when you go back, you discover they're really great. This is Elliott's most fragile and delicate music, and we wanted to honor that with a special and beautiful package."
Leon Bridges has a massive US tour planned, but no Seattle shows have been announced yet. Yet.

Of this collaboration, Van Etten said in a press release: “Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this weird world of touring. We highway high-fived many times along the way…. I finally got the courage in June of 2020 to reach out to see if she would want to sing together. I got greedy and quickly sent her a track I had been working on.”

Pitchfork: I love how this song captures the awkward physicality of being a teenager. What were you like in those years?
Lucy: I was pretty obedient, and I loved God a lot. I was always trying to get to the deepest depth of everything. I would challenge strangers to staring contests and blow bubbles in the hallway of my high school. It was, like, quirky girl shit. That said, I was dissociating a lot. I would randomly fall asleep when I was stressed out. One time, I just shut down completely and took a nap on the sidewalk, in the sun. I had enough drama that I learned things and had enough nice things—and enough hurtful things—that I’ve become someone I mostly understand. I don’t think I could have said that a couple of years ago.

You were a cold crush, I was a heartbreak junky
Now you're a mother, and I'm a flashback son
Yeah, I'm a wasteland, you've got all your milk and honey
And back then, I swore you were the only one

John Lennon wrote this song for Timothy Leary's campaign for governor of California against Ronald Reagan. The campaign’s slogan was “Come Together,” a reference to the I Ching as well as an invitation to join Leary’s political party and Lennon thought that was a pretty good place to start.
Paul McCartney said that Lennon’s initial version of the song was initially much faster and that it shared multiple similarities to Chuck Berry's “You Can't Catch Me.” The bassist says that he suggested slowing the song down and making it a little more funky. groovyhistory.com
Good morning John!
It's a morning faithfuls anniversary! My husband Russell and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today. My request and my always song to him is Golden Brown by the Stranglers. Like many, We too have had a tough year with many difficult obstacles to conquer. I hope this song can bring a smile and lift the head a bit higher. He is deserving of that and I love him dearly.

John Reis is the main fellow behind Rocket from the Crypt. Prior to this he was the guitarist in the post-hardcore band Pitchfork, and also played in Drive Like Jehu during the early 1990s. In 1999 he formed the Hot Snakes, and in 2000 also formed the Sultans, in which (as Slasher) he sang and originally played bass before switching to rhythm guitar. He's also an incredible visual artist.

The Isle of Wight duo of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers debut single is deadpan, cheeky and slightly salacious post-punk that is very much doing its own thing with distant relatives like the newly rediscovered Delta 5 and Au pairs from way back in the punk rock wars or the wonderful Dry Cleaning in these modern times.

Mmm, new wave. To quote Johnny Slash from 80s sitcom Square Pegs, it's totally different head. Totally. Oh look, the internet has an episode of the show. www.youtube.com

Singer Neil Tennant has said that he wrote the lyrics purging his emotions in a moment of frustration and anger, but it wasn't something serious: "People took it really seriously; the song was written in about 15 minutes, and was intended as a camp joke and it wasn’t something I consciously took very seriously."

She says of the song," “I feel like people will instantly think this is a love song but it’s actually not. This song is more me standing up for myself and who I am and maintaining that through adversity. I wrote this pretty instantaneously in the moment so it definitely has a dramatic take it or leave it sentiment..."

The 7" version also includes a long creaking sound of a door closing at the beginning, which originated from the music video shot for the song by director Tim Pope, which features the band trapped in a wardrobe falling off a cliff into the English Channel. Robert Smith said of making the video: "It was the most uncomfortable 12 hours that I've ever spent. He [Tim Pope] ended up dropping the wardrobe - with us still in it - into a huge tank filled with 1000 gallons of water. Watching it you'd think is was fun, but all I could think about was dying a slow, painful death". -- youtu.be

From the Irish singers second album, the song "I Am Stretched on Your Grave" was taken from an anonymous 17th-century poem titled "Táim sínte ar do thuama". The album was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1991, including Record of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Good morning John! The other day Larry Mizell played an amazing mashup of This Year/Space Jam Theme and it really lifted my spirits. If you could find the time to play it today it would make me so so happy. Thanks ❤️
