Hey Monday, it's time for The Morning Show! This record was released on this day 50 years ago today. Guitarist Eddie Hazel recorded his Maggot Brain solo in one take. George Clinton said in his 2014 memoir: "I told him to play like his mother had died, to picture that day, what he would feel, how he would make sense of his life, how he would take a measure of everything that was inside him and let it out thought his guitar."-bit.ly

Author David Stubbs described this song as "far and away the prettiest track on" the album, and an example of Hendrix's versatility as a guitarist.

“Jagna” translates to “warrior” or “fighter” in Amharic and is a call for those that come before her “to release and charge.” “Firstly, ‘Jagna’ will never be able to be articulated in words. But I’ll try,” notes Alewya. “‘Jagna’ is polarity. ‘Jagna’ is release, ‘Jagna’ is my soul, ‘Jagna’ is my rage, ‘Jagna’ is my lesson, my desperation, frustration, my surrender, my vulnerability, my acceptance and my existence on this planet.”

Speaking about this new single, Torres' Mackenzie Scott explained, "The title emerged from a dream I had. The song’s theme is that truth is eternal, and it’s also about never stopping. "To bring it back down to earth, the song’s also about being ready to drop everything to do something essential for someone you love. In this instance, it’s bringing my girlfriend lunch so she can keep painting." bit.ly -- See the "prehistoric" video: www.youtube.com

Donelly wrote about her deep “affection” for “Shiny One,” which is also the band’s first completely collaborative song, she said. “Gail wrote the riff and the chorus; Tom and I wrote the verse and bridge; Chris’s parts shaped the direction and vibe,” she added. “When I hear it, I hear all four of us equally.” bit.ly

James’ 16th studio album is a departure from the familiar. ‘All the Colours of You’ is their first record with new label Caroline International. The pandemic coupled with Tim Booth living in California provided some logistical challenges in the usual recording process, resulting the rest of the band sending in their parts remotely. northern-exposure.co

"Hey John, Welcome back! Quick request - This weekend was my birthday, but we celebrated differently because I was also just accepted for Iceland's Remote Worker Visa program and leaving Brooklyn next week for a 3+mo journey around the island. My great-great grandfather came to the US from Iceland (3 gens removed) so I hope to explore and learn about my heritage and maybe find some relatives. I will be there for the Airwaves festival, which has been a dream of mine to attend so hopefully I can find KEXP there if you go back this year! So, while I normally listen to The Morning Show from 10-1p Brooklyn time, it will now have to remember to start listening at 2p! I ask if you could play 'Birthday' by The Sugarcubes to celebrate both my birthday and the once in a lifetime adventure! That may seem like the obvious request, but it is also the most appropriate. If not Birthday, then any Sugarcubes will do the trick! Thanks John, for all you do. You are not alone - because we are always listening. Skal! -matthew"

Of this collaboration, Van Etten said in a press release: “Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this weird world of touring.
