A resident of Topanga Canyon for many years, Tim Booth wrote the lyrics of "Beautiful Beaches" in response to climate change migrations and the subsequent increasingly regular Californian fires bringing devastation to his community. It was inspired by a friend who lost his 'fire proof' home and had to flee for his life to the beaches. and a recurring vision Tim had last year of earthquakes and fires in California - a vision which resulted in his family packing up and leaving the Canyon. 'That life we left behind, we're racing down to those beautiful beaches'.

Express is the second studio album by Love and Rockets. It was released on September 15th, 1986 which means it turns 35 years old in a few months. Holy crap. When we asked David J about it, he said something like "well, that was certainly a psychedelic one." Indeed. And perfect. It's a perfect album.
Oh nothing. Just another incredible record from this secret supergroup. Get it while it's hot because in less than 99 days, it'll no longer be on ye olde bandcamp. saultglobal.bandcamp.com
Happy 49th to DJ Shadow, (Joshua Paul Davis) who you may recall was also in the first incarnation of UNKLE.
Last Wednesday I was on a beer crawl in Brooklyn and stopped by Other Half Brewery. The bartender commented on my KEXP t-shirt and we chatted a bit about the Morning show.
On my way out he gave me a can of beer to go for free, which I enjoyed later in Adam Yauch park. I figure that beer was a sign to donate to KEXP.
Any chance you could play Sure Shot from the Beastie Boys in honor of paying it forward and of course MCA?!
Thanks,
Eric from Portland

The Beastie Boys were influenced by Miles Davis' jazz rock albums Agharta and On the Corner while recording Ill Communication. This track features a sample from jazz flutist Jeremy Steig's "Howlin' For Judy", which provides the main instrumental part of the song. www.kexp.org
This London-based electronic duo will be here in Seattle, playing The Moore Theatre on Friday, October 22nd! (Live music!)

Yep, buy enough and you can use it for a new kitchen counter top.
Frank in Brooklyn: Glad to hear the heat has broken in Seattle. Those 100+ degree temperatures are no joke and can definitely wreck havoc on the health. Just ask your neighbors to the south in Portland.
Here in Brooklyn NYC it’s will be 96 in the shade today and we won’t be breaking the heat until tomorrow evening.
But to celebrate your cool down I would like to request an oldie but a goody for play today, the song “Cool Places” from Sparks featuring GoGos member Jane Weidlin from their 1983 album “In Outer Space.”
While you're at it, here's the trailer for the new Sparks documentary in theaters now. www.youtube.com
Speaking about the new single, Torres' Mackenzie Scott explained, "...the song’s ... about being ready to drop everything to do something essential for someone you love. In this instance, it’s bringing my girlfriend lunch so she can keep painting." bit.ly

DEADLINE THURSDAY!!!
Manson had written most of the lyrics for the album by the end of 2019, with a few finishing touches at the end of the sessions in February/March 2020. She had interviewed George Clinton for her podcast The Jump, and was inspired by his P-Funk Mothership concept. Described as the album's "pop song", and referencing the Two Wolves legend, "Wolves" recalls the power of youth and the danger therein
"March Of The Pigs" is the fourth track on 1994's "The Downward Spiral." It has one of the most unusual meters of any song to enjoy popular radio play, alternating three measures of 7/8 time with one measure of 4/4 time in the verses (in effect, a 29/8 time signature). The chorus is in the common 4/4 time signature. As a result, with eighth notes getting the count, the song has a BPM rate of 269.

Remember that time we tweeted at the Sisters of Mercy to get then to record a station ID, and it turned out that it wasn't the goth band, but, well, a group of nuns. Man, those were the days. We were so young. So free.
"Woo-hoo!" I LOVE THIS SONG. WOO WHOM!
According to bassist Alex James, he had a "really bad, sweaty" hangover the day they wrote the song.
Bachelor, the new project from Melina Duterte (Jay Som) and Ellen Kempner (Palehound), is not a band, it’s a friendship.

Santigold told Spin that she matched the song's angry emotion with an "epic" sound, layering her vocals, "into my own choir and getting producer Greg Kurstin to play percussion on a glass bottle to match a marimba sound. "It's really grand. It's my way of painting a musical landscape. These songs are multi-layered and ambitious sounding, like a Peter Gabriel epic," she said.

Hi John! I recently watched a Terribly sad documentary about Michael Hutchence and as I’m mowing the lawn in the North Carolina summer heat I’d love to hear Don’t Change. My affection for INXS has grown exponentially lately. Any chance you could put it on? Stay outta the heat and good luck!

pronoun, aka Alyse Vellturo, has shared about this track: "[It's] about the uncomfortable feeling that everyone around you is growing into their own lives while I feel like nothing’s changing within myself. It’s the uncomfortable feeling of not wanting to be on this planet but knowing I really have to put in effort and figure out how to make life work for me. It’s about the uncomfortable, but at the same time comforting feeling that others feel the same." bit.ly bit.ly
Today's KEXP song of the day. Vocalist Sam Nicholson breaks down the LP title. “Golden, because musically we daydream with the guitars of Teenage Fanclub and The Cure, the singing of The Roches’ sisters, the basslines of Another Sunny Day, and the drums of Lower Dens or Car Seat Headrest,” he says. “Golden Doubt, because hitting your thirties after losing people knocks you off balance for a while, but no longer caring what the world thinks is always a breakthrough feeling.”

"There are many cases of Malkmus' guitar genius at work on even the earliest of Pavement albums, but for me his crowning achievement is the second-to-last song on their last album Terror Twilight, which is entitled 'The Hexx.'" Read a tribute to the great guitar playing on this song: bit.ly
