In the "Today" video, Billy Corgan plays the role of a guy who takes an ice cream van into the desert (on his uniform, his name is spelled "Billie"). Part of it was shot at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley, California in a homage to the 1970 film "Zabriskie Point." -- Corgan says he remembers a time when he was younger and the local ice cream man decided that today would be the day that he quit, so he drove around the neighborhood giving free ice cream to all the kids. At the start of the video this is echoed when Billy's character gives smiling children free treats, then drives off on his wild ride.: www.youtube.com

I’ve heard this song dozens of times and it really struck a chord with me today. Keep doing what you’re doing! With gratitude! Among many reasons KEXP plays this band is the opportunity to hear John pronounce, "Wolf." -- "Smile" was inspired by lead singer Ellie Rowsell’s desire to fight back against those who try to define her. “It’s about people that make assumptions about you,” she said. “This is one of the songs we wrote thinking that we would play it live." The five biggest supermodels of the 1990's were persuaded by George Michael to appear in his music video for the song 'Freedom! '90'. Here, they recall intimate moments and "naughty" antics from the making of that iconic video for "Freedom! 90": bit.ly -- Oh, and here's the video: www.youtube.com

Speaking of freedom..... The song isn't a pure cover, as it takes many musical liberties and alters the lyrics. But it's similar enough that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the writers of the original, are credited as the only composers on the Soup Dragons version. - bit.ly

thebeatofficial.com In 1981, coming off the back of The Beat’s top ten hit “Too Nice To Talk To”, Roger was asked by Joe Strummer and Mick Jones to sing on a version of Rock The Casbah that the Clash were recording. This lead to further collaborations between Roger and the Clash on the road, and then to Mick Jones playing guitar (and nearly joining the group) for General Public, the band that Roger and Dave Wakeling formed after the break up of The Beat in 1983, which enjoyed considerable success on the USA (their biggest hit, Tenderness, still being used in movies today). While Roger and The Clash’s version of Rock The Casbah was never released, Roger has continued to play the song live (it was included on his recent Live In London CD), so when he met the producing duo Dopegrinders at Across The Tracks festival in 2012, and they decided to record together, it was an obvious track to start with.

OMG all y'all are selling the s**t out of the tote bag! I HAD to donate for the tote bag. Thanks from your friend, Nick. --- "Kylie Minogue is the most charming and unassuming pop superstar of all. She’s never been as provocative as Madonna or a vocal marvel to rival Mariah Carey, but her career has proven equally fascinating and enduring. The performer who was dismissively dubbed ‘the singing budgie’ when she broke through with The Loco-Motion in the late 1980s is now a gold-plated icon whose first name alone stands for joyous dance-pop brilliance." John and Morgan, Part of the magic of being an amplifier of KEXP is listening to the drive without that nagging guilt that I’m not supporting a station whose music, culture, and people I love. This is the first recession in my lifetime where I’ve been lucky enough to be gainfully employed. I feel lucky and grateful, and I know what it’s like for those who a struggling through this. So I “upped my amp” to $15 a month in honor of those who might not be able to give. Don’t feel guilty if you can’t support KEXP right now. Focus on you and those you love. We have your back. "Woo-hoo!" "Song 2" lasts (You guessed it!) exactly 2 minutes and 2 seconds. -- There wasn't much thought put into this song. According to bassist Alex James, "We didn't think about it all." I love y’all nerds! That’s all. --Roy -- The title of the track came from an experience the Johns had when they found a substantial number of Ng's listed in a phone book. Linnell: "I think I was collecting possible song ideas and, for some reason, I ended up looking in the phone book, and there were about four pages of this name that contains no vowels, Ng. I was fascinated because it's a name I didn't know about before, and it was filling up a large chunk of the Manhattan white pages. I called up some of the numbers kind of experimentally to find out how it was pronounced, and I got the phone machine of a Dr. Ng and I was kind of relieved. The message said, 'Dr. Ng is not in,' and I had my material."

The music matters but the DJ's may matter more for me. It's the selection, curation, expertise, the segues. KEXP is a masterclass in sound... Chazz -- Simple Minds were "alive and kicking" in 1985 when they released this song as the first single from their "Once Upon A Time" album. The group was enjoying creative and critical success, with their 1984 album "Sparkle in the Rain" a breakthrough. Lead singer Jim Kerr, who wrote the lyrics, had reason to celebrate on a personal level: He married Chrissie Hynde in 1984 and the couple had a daughter, Yasmin, the next year.
