In 2018, Swedish music archeologist and musician Karl Jonas Winqvist traveled to Toubab Dialaw, Senegal, a small fishing village turned hub of Senegal’s bohemian art scene. "The Lion and The Cobra" was Sinéad O'Connor's debut album. The title of the album is from Psalm 91:13 "you will tread upon the lion and cobra". At age 20, she produced the album herself and wrote or co-wrote eight of the nine songs on it.

Today is both my wife, Leah, and my son Mayan's (pronounced like Aztecs “Mayan) birthday. What a lucky, lucky day for me. 🙂 They both love the show and they both love some Stevie Wonder. Mayan is 12 and has been diving into Daft Punk with his new dj board. If you play them a tune, while we sit down to some vegan cinnamon rolls, that would be cool. Hope you all have a great day!

Glad you’re on the air this morning, the last morning I’ll have mostly free to listen to your show for a few months. Tomorrow is the start of our hybrid learning at school, so it’s back to half days with half a class in my room until the end of the year. I still hope to listen before the school day starts, but I’m definitely going to miss being able to catch longer portions of your show. They’ve definitely been helping keep me going through all of the challenges the past year has show us.
If you’ve got time to fit a request in at this late moment, I’d love to hear something from either Dry Cleaning or Michael Kiwanuka.
I’m still not sure how this third new regime of teaching and learning in a year is really going to work, but that’s what we’ll get to figure out soon enough. For now, I’m going to do my best to enjoy KEXP streaming through my speakers and the sun shining through the window.

Hi John! Happy Transgender Day of Visibility! I'm so happy we have a POTUS who wants to uplift Trans folks 💗
I've been working on earning my MSW. Grad school is hard, during a pandemic extra. I'm doing my internship at Seattle VA. I learned that the VA is likely the largest provider of healthcare to transgender people in the world. And they don't cover gender-affirming surgery, which they should because it treats gender dysphoria which is linked to suicide. Suicide rates for trans and gender diverse Veterans is 20 times higher than overall VA population. So I formed a team to advocate for the VA to cover gender-affirming, medically necessary, life saving care.
I started out this text wanting to praise POTUS for posting about Trans Day of Visibility. And being grateful to you for helping reduce stigma about mental health. It's all connected, through love.
And I wanted to request a song... So could you please play something by Ezra Furman? My fav.
