Hi all,
If it’s in the cards, I’d love to hear Monsters by Band of Horses on Wednesday morning.
...if I am lost it’s only for a little while...
With a shoutout to everyone who could use a little hope and huge thanks to all of the KEXP crew who provide this vital service and create community every day.
xo,
Caddie
Hi john! If you're able to get a little sera Cahoone on, that'd be lovely. Couch song was actually the first song I consciously heard on kexp when it was the song of the day. I've been in ❤️ever since. Plus...you're playing band of horses. 😉
Shannon in Houston
Good morning John,
Today is my dad Craig's birthday. We both love KEXP and each other. I'm wondering if you wouldn't mind playing The Suburbs by Arcade Fire for him today as there's a line that means so much to both of us:
So can you understand
That I want a daughter while I'm still young?
I want to hold her hand
And show her some beauty before this damage is done
We may not be able to hold hands these days, but he taught me to see beauty in this world, particularly with music.
I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING
With love from Toronto, Canada,
Courtney

“’Cain’s Heresy’ is a portrait of the world we’re headed to - where consumers lie sedated while ‘This Week’s Hot Trend’ and ‘101 Style Tips For Summer’ are forced down their throats by gloved hands,” the band explain. “It’s our way of saying ‘not on my watch’." - bit.ly
"What a great world we all live in / Even better, what a time to be here..."

Shout out to the insomniacs out there!
This was written by 19-year-old P.F. Sloan, who was a staff songwriter at McGuire's label and went on to form The Grass Roots.
A protest song about political issues of the '60s, many radio stations refused to play "Eve Of Destruction" because of its antigovernment lyrics. There was an upside to this controversy, however, as it piqued interest in the song, sending it to #1 in the US.

As seen in the opening credits of The Breakfast Club.

According to Bowie, this started out as a parody of a nightclub song - "kind of throwaway" - but people kept chanting for it at concerts and thus it became one of his most popular and enduring songs. Bowie had no idea it was going to become so successful, but the song connected with his young audience who could relate to lyrics like "These children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds, are immune to your consultations, they're quite aware of what they're going through." - bit.ly

Sting wrote the lyrics while he was in his previous band, Last Exit, then "grafted them shamelessly onto the chords from Bob Marley's 'No Woman No Cry,'" he explained in Lyrics By Sting. - bit.ly

Tom in AZ writes: Good morning to everyone. 100 years ago at the capitol theater in Passaic nj Joe Jackson wore a Margaret thatcher mask when he sang Sunday papers. That was such a great show! Stay safe.
==
"Sunday Papers" is a takedown of the Fleet Street press, the UK print media that were prone to cover sensationalistic and frightening news stories to boost readership. Jackson had his battles with the press, who often categorized him in ways that weren't to his liking (New Wave?). His message here: don't trust everything you read, and don't let it affect your lifestyle.

This song was originally performed by Wilson Pickett in 1965. In 2017, the song "In the Midnight Hour" was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or artistically significant."
“I first heard ‘Higher and Higher’ in Ghostbusters II,” Howard recalled via press release. “I became a huge fan of the song and of course of Jackie Wilson’s version. My solo band started playing the song on tour and it became one of those special moments of the show where you could feel the entire room locked in and the energy reaching the next level. I chose to release this song because it reminds me of those special nights with my band and for its message that through love we can be lifted up higher and higher.” - bit.ly
Polyrhythmics played a full live performance for KEXP in 2017. Enjoy their set here: kexp.org.

Morning John! Today is my son Walter's 7th birthday! He'd love to hear CCFX's "The One To Wait". Any chance you can fit it on this morning? Thanks!
Tom and Walter in Snohomish

Awwww, thanks for playing CCFX! Walter is super excited! It's the first song on his mix tape, and he's begging for more blank tapes, absolutely loves making mix tapes!
The song's title is a reference to the otherwise unrelated song "Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand" by Bruce Cockburn, from his 1978 album "Further Adventures Of". Its chorus consists of a sample from the B.B. King song "How Blue Can You Get" from his 1971 album "Live in Cook County Jail.": "I've been downhearted, baby, ever since the day we met." www.primitiveradiogods.info

This is the first track from Bob Marley and the Wailers 1979 album Survival, originally released on Marley‘s Tuff Gong label. It deals with some pretty heavy themes-- human rights, justice, and liberation--but Marley's music always seems to motivate people to rise up instead of bring them down.
