José González released his first new song in over five years last Wednesday with the track "El Invento." The song is the first in the Swedish singer-songwriter's career to feature lyrics in Spanish. González credits releasing his first work in Spanish to speaking the language with his young daughter in a statement: "Every now and then I try to write lyrics in Spanish - this time I succeeded! I guess talking to Laura in Spanish every day helped. I started writing "El Invento" around 2017 when she was born. The song is about the questions - who we are, where we’re going and why? Whom can we thank for our existence? Historically, most traditions have invented answers to these questions. Thereof the name of the song: The Invention (god)." www.pastemagazine.com

The music video for this Stones track is very literal - Mick Jagger is standing in a doorway, waiting for his friend (Keith Richards) to come by. Then they go to a bar and meet up with the rest of the band. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, who did their Rock and Roll Circus special in 1968, it did very well on MTV despite the very simple concept; the network launched a few months before the song was released as a single, and they were desperate for big-name rock act. Check it out here: www.youtube.com

I recently taught my seven year old son this song (We're going to be Friends), and he sings it while I play guitar. I learned to play it for my daughters, who are now 25 and 21, when they were his age. So many memories. Thank you! Mike In Renton ==

Good morning morning crew! This is an old morning faithful pal neighbor Jen. I thought 2021 was going to be so much better. Grandma passed of covid. My step sister passed a pancreatic cancer last week. And there's nothing that hurts more than hearing your mother say she's lonely. Anyhow would you please play Forever Young? I'm blanking on the band for some reason but the song, ... I'd like to belt it out about now. Thank you for everything you do and have a great day! It's only going to get better from here! -Jen in Belltown == Written as a lullaby for his eldest son Jesse, born in 1966, Dylan's song relates a father's hopes that his child will remain strong and happy. Not wishing to sound "too sentimental", Dylan included two versions of the song on the Planet Waves album, one a lullaby and the other more rock oriented: www.bbc.com

I want people to hear our music, and feel a sense of love. And when I say love, it can be challenging, intense, and tough. The guitar sound on Waiting on a Friend made me think of Don't Dream It's Over. Such a solid tune! - Dan Crowded House lead singer Neil Finn wrote this song. He explained in an interview: "I wrote that on my brother's piano. I'm not sure if I remember what the context was, exactly, but it was just about on the one hand feeling kind of lost, and on the other hand sort of urging myself on - don't dream it's over. That one actually fell out literally, without me thinking about it too much.": www.youtube.com

Tom Bailey on this iconic track: "I have looked at a song which was never released as a single but was very popular because it was in a film called Sixteen Candles. It's called "If You Were Here," and it's a song which originally addressed an unsureness about honesty in relationships. But when I looked at it again, I recognized a hidden meaning, as well, which was going back to this song after 30 years - nearly 32 years in this case. I thought, Well, what's happened in that time? What have we become? What have we done? It has that sense of optimism about the world being destined to be a better place. Has that borne fruit, or are there any disappointments to confess?" www.songfacts.com

Recorded, as usual, at Amherst's Biquiteen, the sessions for Sweep It Into Space began in the late Autumn of 2019, following a West Coast/South East tour. The only extra musician used this time was Kurt Vile, who co-produced the album and played the lead 12 string on the upbeat “I Ran Away.” J Mascis’ voice is immediately catchy over soaring, electrifying guitar lines. After recording with Kurt got disrupted, J Mascis “ended up just mimicking a few things he'd done. I was listening to a lot of Thin Lizzy, so I was trying to get some of that dueling twin lead sound. But the recording session was pretty well finished by the time things really hit the fan. When the lockdown happened in March, that meant I was on my own. But it was cool.”
