Out on this day in 1993. "Stop Whispering" was written as a tribute to the Pixies (though Radiohead later said they missed the mark, and landed somewhere in early U2 territory)! Radiohead's Ed Obrien described this song as being “about people not standing up for their rights: Stop whispering and start shouting.” - bit.ly

The video is the result of a collaboration between the artist and the Detroit School of Arts. Radio and TV Department students from the school had a hand in the filming of the video, while the clip also stars the Vocal Jazz Ensemble singing ‘Everybody’s Coming to My House’. Speaking about the video, Byrne said: “When I saw what the DSA students did with my song, it completely changed the way I thought of the song. In face, it changed the meaning of the song — I realized it was about inclusion, welcoming and not being alone.”: www.youtube.com

For Cari, who says: Good morning. It is with a heavy heart that I write in to request a song in memory of my partners' beautiful faithful loving dog who we had to make the tough decision to put down last night. The more I was around the dog he quickly became my best friend as well, and we developed many daily habits and lasting memories. As I walk through the house this morning I'm at a major loss, but I know his memory will go on for the many people this dog has had a special connection with. I called him "monkey" quite often as a nickname, so I would love to hear "monkey gone to heaven" by the pixies please. Thank you so much for all you do.

"Ok, you have really kept me company throughout this pandemic, my move from Seattle, back to St. Louis, my struggle to find myself again. My time on the farm, hacking honeysuckle and learning the true meaning of manual labor. And now, to 2021, where I'm finally settled in, happy to be back, happy to of found myself. Every time in the past year, when I asked you to play this song, it was because I needed to hear it, and now I want to ask you to play it, for someone else, who might need to hear these beautiful words of comfort. Will you please play You are not alone, Brandon Summers." Anne in St. Louis Enjoy a KEXP interview with Brandon Summers of The Helio Sequence: www.kexp.org

When my oldest son was a baby he HATED the car. It made going anywhere torturous but then One More Time came on and he stopped crying. It was a minor miracle! From then on we just looped it on every car ride and it helped everyone's moods. It's still one of my favorites. Thanks! -Samantha in Bellingham == Angela in Snohomish adds: when my son (who is now 17) was a toddler, it was his favorite song, too! He called it "the BIG music" and always asked me to play it for him and we'd have a dance party in the living room. One of my favorite memories. Thank you so much for playing it!

Released on this day in 1993. This anthem to suburban romance sees vocalist and lyricist Brett Anderson desperate to convince himself that there's an escape from council estate gloom. He recalled to Q magazine April 2011: "I had this schoolboy-ish idea to sneak an overtly sexual song with the framework of pop. I was amazed it got daytime radio play, considering the title is a play on amyl nitrite. To me, it's set in suburbia, in a council estate in Haywards Heath. I was brought up as a white, working-class English boy, and that's what I wrote about. If you're born in a dump you aspire to something better."
