'Toward the Within' is the first live album from Dead Can Dance. It was recorded in Santa Monica, CA at the Mayfair Theatre in 1993. The theatre would be heavily damaged in an earthquake only two months later, and it has remained closed since then.

About this Todd Snider cover, he noted to NME: “I was there when TV started – didn’t know I’d become a part of it – but it could be that its power is to remind us how wonderful, crazy and inventive we are, but also how scary the reality it reflects can be."

Shirley Manson to Spin in August about the group's new album: "We finished our record literally a week before lockdown really happened. So we got all the recording done, which was astounding for us, so we now have that record sort of in the can... There were plans literally the week before the shutdown that we were going to release it in early spring of next year. Now I have no idea."
