Earlier this year, frontman Alec Ounsworth described ‘New Fragility’ as a “pretty personal” record. “It’s about what I think we’re all experiencing at the moment, certainly here in the United States anyway – trying to move forward amidst an almost cruel uncertainty.”

Lost Horizons is the brainchild of former Cocteau Twin bassist/Bella Union label head Simon Raymonde and Dif Juz’s (former 4AD post-punk outfit) Richie Thomas. They've recently released a new song, “Every Beat That Passed,” featuring a Swedish singer Kavi Kwai (real name Julia Ringdahl). Raymonde says finding her was "...akin to roaming the beaches...with a defective metal detector and discovering a whopping blue diamond. (O)n hearing her music, I vowed to create a track especially for her. When I received her vocal back, I had that unusual experience of simultaneously laughing and crying at the same time. Laughing because I couldn’t believe how incredible it was, and crying because she turned our tune into a beautifully sad song which really moved me.”

Vocalist Krissy Vanderwoude: “Reality” was inspired by the feeling that happens when someone is waking up from a dream that felt so real, is still in a delirious in between state, where they are trying to decipher what was a dream and what is reality. Having a hard time accepting that it’s not their reality, they quickly close their eyes and try to fall back into dreaming, hoping to pick up where they left off and continue on in that moment.”

It will be 11 years in May that The Black Keys released their amazing "Brothers" album. Late last year, the Black Keys announced they’d be reissuing the album for its anniversary, and this new expansion would feature some outtakes. “Keep My Name Outta Your Mouth” and “Black Mud Part II.” The lyrics on the album mostly dealt with relationship turmoil. Just days before entering the studio, Carney had filed for divorce. While Auerbach said the songs were not written about his bandmate’s life, Michael Carney — Patrick’s brother, who does the band’s artwork — observed: “I think Dan wrote the songs from his own experience. But I think he wrote them for Pat.”

In the song, Bowie describes Bob Dylan's voice "like sand and glue" which is similar to how Joyce Carol Oates described it upon first hearing Dylan: "When we first heard this raw, very young, and seemingly untrained voice, frankly nasal, as if sandpaper could sing, the effect was dramatic and electrifying."

“I had just been in Tom’s,” Suzanne Vega said in 2010, “and I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to have a song called ‘Tom’s Diner’ about alienation, where you’re not connected to anything you see, you’re kind of seeing everything through a pane of glass. Lately on the internet I’ve been reading people saying this song is really random and it’s about nothing. It’s not about nothing! It’s about something! Every single scene has been set up to show that this person is alienated from life in general.”: ig.ft.com

The hook samples the line, "I've been downhearted baby, ever since the day we met" from a live performance of B.B. King singing "How Blue Can You Get?," which can be heard on his 1971 album Live in Cook County Jail. That song was written by a British songwriter/music journalist named Leonard Feather, along with his wife Jane. They each shared composer credits on "Phone Booth" as a result of the sample.

Tamara Lindeman said in a press release:"Trying to capture something of the slipping feeling I think we all feel, the feeling of dread, even in beautiful moments, even when you’re a little drunk on a sea cliff watching the sun go down while seabirds fly around you; that slipping feeling is still there, that feeling of dread, of knowing that everything you see is in peril. I feel like I spend half my life working on trying to stay positive. My whole generation does. But if you spend any time at all reading about the climate situation circa now, positivity and lightness are not fully available to you anymore; you have to find new ways to exist and to see, even just to watch the sunset. I tried to make the band just go crazy on this one, and they did. This is one where the music really makes me see the place in my mind; the flute and the guitar chasing each other, wheeling around like birds, the drums cliff like in their straightness; I love the band on this one. pitchfork.com

A 2009 article in Magnet called this album a "lost classic", and said that on the album, "the Fibbers' warped alt-country twang haunted the City of Angels like ghosts of California country’s past, full of grinding violin and poisoned tales of junkies, madness and lost innocence."

Shadow of Fear, the first new Cabaret Voltaire album in 26 years, finds the UK post-punk/proto-industrial act reduced to just one person: founding member Richard H. Kirk. Much of the album’s throwback sound is due to simple technology choices. Kirk’s recent Cabaret Voltaire performances didn’t make use of laptops, but rather stuck to his array of older synths and drum machines. According to the press notes for Shadow, when he tried to upgrade his setup for the recording, his computer melted down. Read more at Pitchfork pitchfork.com

Deconstruction was a band formed by former Jane's Addiction members, guitarist Dave Navarro and bassist Eric Avery. Originally their former Jane's Addiction bandmate drummer Stephen Perkins was slated to be Deconstruction's drummer but instead joined Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell's new band Porno for Pyros. Drummer Michael Murphy was instead recruited for percussion duties. Deconstruction released only one self-titled album and one promotional single, "L.A. Song", and did not tour due to Eric Avery reportedly being still weary from extensive touring in Jane's Addiction.

In an interview, Murphy, was asked what it is that cuts you up and spits you out. He replied: "The path of discovery, self-knowledge, wisdom... once you feel you have it. Then the path will spit you out or off the way and ruin your assumptions of this path. In fact, a great mighty necessity for those spiritual seekers or so-called 'holy state' desires when getting arrogant."
