"Dear KEXP, on May 31st, I moved into a short-term apartment here in Seattle after living for 13 years in Oakland CA, which I thought was my forever home. Moving in a pandemic was wild. Then just as I hit the bed, the protests over George Floyd's murder began. I drove into Seattle with the highway shut down, a 6pm curfew, and the police going out of their way to prove the protesters' points. The first time I ventured out, it was to support a black-owned restaurant on Capitol Hill. While my partner got our takeout, I sat in the car scrolling through the FM dial and landed on someone playing Prince, then Jenelle Monae, then Public Enemy? Who were these guys? Fast forward 3 months, Seattle is home, police are still beating peaceful protesters, and KEXP has been with me every day. My partner is back in Oakland but I'm not alone because I can tune in and share the highs & lows with the DJs and listeners through music. The new lineup, fundraisers, the Friday Song, all of it has helped. My summer 2020 memories are all set to your soundtrack. Will you please play "Dont Give Up" by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush?"
