Good morning Seattle, and welcome to the Wednesday edition of The Morning Show. How are you today? Reach out to us during the show at dj@kexp.org.
As you would expect, this is the opening track to the French act's gold-selling album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming.' That's Zola Jesus on background vocals for this one.
This third album from the British group features Hope Sandoval, Liam Gallagher, Nicola Kuperus, and Paul Weller on a few tracks. 'Scorpio Rising' was released in 2003 in the U.S.
Robert Smith to Guitar Player on the inspiration for this album: "For Wish, I would listen to "Mesmerize" by Chapterhouse for its feeling of abandon and "Human" by the Human League. You couldn't spot anything sonically or structurally that would influence anything we did, but there's an indefinable something that I'm trying to capture. One night I must have played "Mesmerize" 20 times, drinking and turning it louder and louder, putting myself into a trance."
BRONSON (the new project of ODESZA and Golden Features) about this song from their debut release: "Working with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs on this song was the last step in completing our album. We felt his lyrics bring a sense of hope, and his vocals compliment the tone and energy of the song perfectly."

Single from the band's second album that Thom Yorke said they were pressured into including on the release, even though he personally hated the song.
In a breakdown of this track, Solange told Song Exploder that, “I’ve had a extremely difficult relationship with meditating and trying to silence my brain, which is what so much of this song is about.”
Michael J. Moore from NPR wrote about this one, "SAULT's latest and best album, is a capital-B Black record that funnels rage and sorrow into contemplative streams of thought, over equally brooding music meant to slow your heart rate." saultglobal.bandcamp.com

"Today is the first day of school for my 14 year old daughter Molly and she is bummed, like so many other teenagers, to be missing her friends and doing school from home. But she’s being such a good sport about it! Wondering if you can play Erasure’s A Little Respect for a little boost on this strange morning.
Side note: her dad, George, is officiating a wedding this weekend and worked “#youarenotalone” into the ceremony. Love in the time of Covid. Thanks for considering!" - Mary
"I thought the very nature of the song was, you know, enjoy the silence, so it ought to have a very serene atmosphere. It took me a while to get used to the idea, but as we took it further that way with the guitar riff, it really pulled together." - Martin Gore to Select Magazine in December 1990.
The intro to this song uses a sample from the Cassini probe, which was ordered to destroy itself by crashing into the surface of Saturn in 2017.
Written by Cat Stevens, but first recorded and released by The Tremeloes before Stevens added it to his 1967 debut album 'Matthew and Son.'

"Getting into some kind of a maybe groove here at home as we scramble to get school set up behind the scenes. meetings all day, staring at screens, planning my a*&^ off and then realizing just how different this is going to be regardless of how much I plan.
Super happy to know I can always stream KEXP when I'm not live with the students...kinda like I did in my classroom. wow-those were the days. If possible, would love to hear the new midnight oil single to get me amped up for my day.
Thanks for all you guys do, on air and behind the scenes. This is truly a crazy time we are living through and KEXP is my rock, my anchor and my lifeline to sanity." - jkp
Frontman Grian Chatten to Stereogum about the origins of this song from their new album: "This is a lot more honed-in when we first started jamming it. I don’t know if we explicitly said it, but it was like, “Everyone play whatever the f*ck they want.”

"It's the birthday of an online friend. And of the son of another friend. And would have been my friend Andy's birthday but he died on Christmas Eve. The last show I went to with him was Thrill Kill Kult. At his wake, he had several us don death masks and dance our hearts out to "Daisy Chain for Satan." So I'm hoping you can fit in some TKK today. You don't need to mention him... we'll know. We'll appreciate, and we'll smile too." - For you, Will, and definitely worth mentioning

"Sent my son off to school in this strange world today. Grade 6. Saw the excitement and invincibility in his eyes. Made me think of that time in my life, where the world is yours for the taking. That’s a good feeling. We all need that feeling these days. Made me think of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears For Fears too. That’d be a nice song to hear. Happy Wednesday!" - Shayne

Dramarama singer John Easdale to Vice about this one in 2017: "Couples often tell me it's "their" song, and I'm flattered that they feel the emotion and passion of it, but I am always a bit reluctant to mention that it is essentially an ode to a bitter break-up."
