Vocalist Molly Hamilton on the struggles that came before the writing of 'Plum': “I didn’t want to write for a long time; I didn’t even really want to listen. I stopped believing in ‘music as a career’ and the distorted idea of what it had become in my mind: building and projecting a personality, promoting it, selling it. Losing that sense of purpose… it made me question my own value, usefulness.”

Sia told ilikemusic.com that during the production of this song: "I was really sick with flu and I walked in the next day and the track was there without me singing on it and it was just so sleek." It would appear on her 2004 album 'Colour the Small One,' and is known best for being used in the finale of "Six Feet Under."

Speaking to NME earlier this year, Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis said about being in lockdown: “One thing I’ve noticed is a pressure to be productive. The moment that it became evident that there was going to be a sustained lockdown, everybody I spoke to was like, ‘Oh, it’s going to be a great time to write some music eh?’ I was like, ‘I don’t tell you when to do your job!’ I’ve got nothing inside right now. There’s almost like this sportsman-like pressure to seize the day. For the first few weeks, I’ve been perfectly content just resting. As time goes on, I’m sure that’ll change and I’ll start writing some music.”

This is the Australian band's first new song in 18 years. Their forthcoming new album (out in October) will feature collaborations between Midnight Oil and several Indigenous artists: “Hopefully this song and ‘The Makarrata Project’ mini-album we’ve created alongside our First Nations friends can help shine a bit more light on the urgent need for genuine reconciliation in this country and in many other places too.”
