Teddy Pendergrass, left paralyzed after a 1982 car crash, returned to the stage at the Live Aid concert on this day in 1985 in front of a live audience of about 1.5 billion television viewers. It was his first live performance since the accident. Pendergrass then performed this Diana Ross classic "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)"with Ashford and Simpson.

On this day in 1985, Run D.M.C. took the stage at John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia for the historic Live Aid benefit show that aired to 1.9 billion tv viewers. “For us it was a lot of pressure ’cause [concert promoter] Bill Graham personally requested that we be there,” DMC told Rolling Stone in 2016. “At first, from what I hear, when Bill Graham brought our names up, people was like, ‘What? Why would you want them here? They’re not even gonna be around in three or four years.’ But Bill Graham — rest in peace — personally said, “I will not participate if you don’t have Run-D.M.C. here.”

New one from Songhoy Blues, a band from Timbuktu, Mali. The group is one of the principal subjects of the 2015 documentary film "They Will Have To Kill Us First" which tells the story of extremists that gained control, banned music in Mali, and destroyed instruments and radio stations during this conflict.
