"I remember recording it down at Weston, down at the White House, and for the longest time it sounded like a Pixies cover. Thinking back, I think that was people’s hesitancy." - Bassist Nick Chaplin to the Observer about why this one was almost left off of 'Souvlaki'
Seattle's Perfume Genius (Mike Hadreas) said about this single: “I started writing about when you are in such a dark place that you don’t even remember what goodness is or what anything feels like. The idea was having someone describe that to you, because you forgot or can’t get to it.”

"Tomorrow is my wife's birthday, so I was hoping I could get an early request on... If you could play Animal Collective's My Girls for Fiona, I'd really appreciate it. She's the best part of sheltering in place and the number one reason this pandemic is bearable. She's a total extrovert and having a tough time, but also a public health professional who wants everyone to follow the damn rules and wear their masks. Thanks so much." - Spencer
A song described by writer Neil McCormick as one that, "You want to raise your voice and sing along, yet Bowie’s abstract cut-up lyrics force you to invest the song with something of yourself just to make sense of the experience, and then carries you away to a place resonant with intense, individual emotion. The magic and mystery of music and lyrics. It is something to behold."
Featured on the soundtrack for the film "Kids," which also showcases Daniel Johnston and Slint.

Mick Fleetwood once said that, "The Chain' basically came out of a jam. That song was put together as distinct from someone literally sitting down and writing a song. It was very much collectively a band composition. The riff is John McVie's contribution - a major contribution."

Happy 34th anniversary to the Eurythmics 'Revenge' album, released on this day in 1986!
"My elderly uncle was hospitalized for a mental health crisis far, far from Seattle, leaving me feeling helpless and sad. I was trying to think of a song that might lift me up a bit and for some reason, Return to the Moon by El Vy came to mind. If you can play that, it'd be nice to hear on your program this morning." - For you, Laurie.
We could not be more excited to debut this song!!! This Is The Kit, aka Kate Stables, is announcing here first that they will release a new album Off Off On via Rough Trade Records on October 23rd.
Stables worked on the new record with producer Josh Kaufman, a Hold Steady collaborator and member of Bonny Light Horseman and Muzz.
Kate explains the meaning behind lead single ‘This Is What You Did’ as “A bit of a panic attack song. The negative voices of other people that are your own voice. Or are they? Hard to say when you’re in this kind of a place. We all get into negative mind loops sometimes. Especially when you’re not getting the fresh air and outside time you need to stay healthy.”
First single from Belly's debut album 'Star', and led by Tanya Donnelly of Throwing Muses and Breeders.
Featured in a scene in the 1986 film "Pretty in Pink." Check out Stereogum's reflection on this soundtrack here: www.stereogum.com
"If you could fit "hold on hope" (gbv) into the playlist, that would be awesome. My husband is struggling mightily with his clinical depression right now, but we are apart while he helps care for his dad, who is fighting brain cancer. He's in Houston and I'm in Indiana. I feel so helpless and I wish I could just fill his heart with the hope he could really use." - For you both, Amanda
Album number 2 from the German duo is coming soon.... www.leaporcelain.com
Sharon Van Etten said in an interview to NPR in 2012, "I wrote the song about a friend talking me through a panic attack. Moving to New York City and doing what I do, social anxiety is a really ridiculous kind of curse to have. But I met people along the way who deal with it — performers as well — and they are learning to deal with it daily and deal with it in different ways. "We Are Fine" is a duet with Beirut's Zach Condon, who has social anxiety, too."
Fontaines D.C. second album, A Hero’s Death will be out on July 31st, and today they've shared a third single, “Televised Mind.”
They say the song is "...about the echo chamber, and how personality gets stripped away by surrounding approval. People’s opinions get reinforced by constant agreement, and we’re robbed of our ability to feel wrong. We’re never really given the education of our own fallibility. People feign these great beliefs in order to appear trendy, as opposed to independently arriving at their own thoughts."
This has been The Morning Show! Gabriel Teodros will be in for you all tomorrow at 6:00 AM for the Canada Day edition of The Morning Show. Take care of yourselves, friends.
