"We sent our 1,000 plus volunteers to home to be safe with their families and now five staff members at Meals on Wheels in Tulsa are delivering all the meals. I’m spending eight to ten hours in a van every day listening to KEXP. Tomorrow is my first day off in a while to spend with my beautiful wife, Jessica. Could I hear Billy Bragg’s Saturday Boy to help me get there?" - Thanks for all YOU do, Chef Jonny <3

"Eleanor from Seattle. Thanks for helping get through another long week of teaching remotely. We go on Spring Break today. It is my parents 50th anniversary tomorrow and my nieces 2nd birthday (my sister lives in New York with her family). My parents are together in their home in the Dominican Republic. We were all going to fly there to celebrate, and obviously we aren't now. It's these misses in person celebrations that make some days more personally raw than others. I used to make mixes for my father, and he fell in love with Papa Was a Rodeo by the Magnetic Fields. Would you play that song to help me send the positive connecting energy of music to my family staying hunkered down in our various homes? In gratitude!"

"THANK YOU for being a lifeline to sanity during these times! It feels weird having a birthday in isolation, but music helps! Any chance you can play Augustines "Nothing to Lose But Your Head"? That anthem really speaks to everyone who relies on music in general (and KEXP in particular) to "shine a light down in the dark" lately!" - Hollie in Chattanooga

"Thanks for the opening set, it’s giving me goosebumps. Shows the power of music to connect the Morning Faithful despite our altered realities, geographic distance or state of mind. Thanks for being an anchor we can rely on. Can you play some Jane's Addiction to keep it going?" - You got it, Andrew!

We've just received word that Bill Withers has passed away at the age of 81 due to heart complications. Statement from his family: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other. As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.”

“What few songs I wrote during my brief career, there ain’t a genre that somebody didn’t record them in. I’m not a virtuoso, but I was able to write songs that people could identify with. I don’t think I’ve done bad for a guy from Slab Fork, West Virginia.” - Read the rest of this 2015 Rolling Stone interview with Bill Withers, who has died at the age of 81 today, here: bit.ly

"Long time listener, first time writing in. Thank you for John for keeping it real and making my morning every morning while I've been working from home. I'm listening from Austin TX, where the reality of the virus is hitting many people now for the first time. I live alone and I've hardly left my apartment in 2 weeks, but when I did I could see that the bluebonnets along the highway are having a great year. I wish we could all see a little more of them. I'd love to hear Nothing But Flowers by the Talking Heads. Thanks for the important work you do and for the much needed reminder that we are not alone!" - Callie

DJ El Toro is dancing somewhere. In his pig costume! Love this Madonna song! -- "I never thought I would ever request a Madonna song since I used to complain that radio played her and Michael Jackson over and over while ignoring so many great artists who never got played. But I guess a global pandemic really can make people behave in crazy ways...sigh Anyway, Holiday really is a pretty catchy uplifting song, a reminder of simpler times, and one of my guilty pleasures. It might be a fun dance party song that others would enjoy too. Cheers" - Jay

"My dear friend Liz and I met in 2003 and we bonded listening to your show at work. Show Me has been our song thanks to you. She’s living in England now with her 3 year old son Max and they are home bound like most of us. Our other great friend Heather is here in Baltimore down the street from me and her 3 year old son Bodhi is best friends with Max. Last week after hearing the Friday Song I suggested we, with my 9 year old son Crosby, all have a FaceTime dance party. So could you please give the kids a shout out when you play the Friday song? We could all use a pick me up these days and the boys would be ecstatic to hear their names on the radio. Thank you again for making sure we aren’t alone through this. Be well!" - Leana, this is for you, Liz, Max, Heather, Bodhi, and Crosby!

"This time of year always lifts my spirits because it’s always been the start of the baseball season and a reminder to all of us in the rainy PNW that summer is coming. I work in the sports and fitness industry and had the opportunity to work with Ken Griffey Jr late in his career. He is firmly seated among my all time favorite athletes of any sport and I wonder if you could squeeze “My Oh My” in today in honor of KGJr, Dave Niehaus and all of the other baseball fans and radio broadcasters around the world." - Jacob in Portland

"Well, we had a week off in the tour for some reason, due to gig rearrangements and/or whatever, and I flew back to LA, but the band hung out in Seattle and they started jamming about and rehearsing and started putting together a really catchy tune. So I flew up, and the words just flowed out instantly. It's a great song. The subject is about rioting, really, and when you see them World Trade Organization riots, it's kind of appropriate. It's an homage to Seattle, a town that's never done us any harm. A town we feel quite warm about... great atmosphere, the gigs are always amazing. It feels like home to me." // www.thestranger.com
