Hey John, I just wanted to thank you and the entire KEXP team. I listen to the morning show every day. I live in Portland, Maine but grew up in the Northwest. KEXP used to be my connection back home, now as I spend my days working from my kitchen table, it's one of my links to the world. I'd love to hear some Wilco this morning. Take care of yourself and thanks again! -Steve

Been listening to you and the other great DJ's whenever I work from home. Great songs all around, especially over the last couple of weeks. The Moondoggies were a band that kept me listening to KEXP after finding out about the station. I don't have a cool story to tell other than The Moondoggies are a great band. Finally got to see them in September when they came through Chicago on a tour opening for The Head and the Heart. Great guys too. Hope to make it out to the Seattle area to see them live sometime soon. Hopefully. Soon. Thanks for everything. Egan

My wife and I are busy swapping off homeschooling responsibilities and work (we're both in education; I'm Zooming my day away with my classes). I know it's been said a million times, but I can't thank you and the other dj's at KEXP for keeping me sane through all this madness outside our doors. My wife and I have friends and family in health care and I can't imagine what they're going through right now in hospitals, particularly in Seattle and NYC. We just donated some masks to a local hospital in NYC. It is unbelievable that our government is neglecting the most critical folks in our workforce, in our lives, right now. Let's all hope they get some relief soon. I'd love to hear New York Cares by Interpol when you have the time to fit it in. Thanks again for everything. Best, Patrick New York, NY

NYC is all I can think about right now. It’s pretty grim. How about New York by St. Vincent if you have a radio-safe version, or Cat Power’s New York. And you just made me burst into tears with Plainsong! 😭 Gonna be that kinda day. - Chanda (rhymes with Honda)

Thanks so much for your continued work this week and during these strange times. Your positive energy and the amazing music that you share keeps a lot of people going! The morning show certainly helps me keep moving and forward, as I attempt to figure out teaching from home here in Austin! Could you play something by The National? No particular song preference. Thanks! Happy Friday! C J

our wedding was supposed to be tomorrow. when we made the call to postpone it only a couple weeks ago in order to keep our friends and family safe, it felt like we still had a choice. now, with everyone under "stay at home" directives and thousands ill and dying, it's clear we didn't. canceling a wedding is a small thing compared to the suffering so many people are going through right now, but we're still pretty crushed to not be gathering with our loved ones tomorrow. on the bright side, the weather is going to be miserable tomorrow and the wedding was going to be outside, so maybe it's all for the best? would love to hear thom yorke's cover of "all for the best" from the ciao my shining star compilation, if you can fit it in. thanks for everything you're doing to keep the kexp community in good spirits. - lissa in dc

I live in Germany. Over 10 years I listen to your station often in my studio. You are doing a great job, and many thanks for your work. I always wanted to write this to you. Going out to dinner with friends, going to a concert, a exhibition or going dancing seems almost surreal in these times! At the Moment, once a day I listen to loud music and dance! I close my eyes, move and try to forget everything for a moment. Yesterday I danced to "Hold tight London" by Chemical Brothers: Six minutes of just moving to the music and not thinking of anything, in these times! I wish you all the best, stay healthy and please keep up the good work. Thank you and best wishes, Florian

Last night at 8, my 11-year old son, Bridger, took his grandma's acoustic guitar to the back porch and started playing Radio Head's 'Fake Plastic Trees'. It was beautiful and powerful. These kids have had their world turned upside down maybe even more than we adults. After he finished I could hear some neighbors crying. We're going to get through this and just a reminder for everyone, you are not alone. Can you play Fake Plastic Trees Thanks Nick

Morning John, Owen and Lisa. I woke up this morning with anxiety attack, afraid that I would lose my job and the home I just bought. I know others have already gone through the same and am grateful everyday for what I have. I decided that playing Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard by Paul Simon would make me feel better. And it did! I sang and whistled the whole thing. So inspired by John last year and his love of Some Sunsick Day I decided to play it 2 more times. And now I feel three times better! Will you please play Me and Julio as many times as you'd like to remind us that we are all gonna be ok, no matter what this crazy world throws at us? Love y'all, as always, Jenny

John- Sometimes emotions build up like a river behind a logjam. Under the skin but the tears won't come out. Yesterday you played an acoustic cover of American Tune as sung by Dave Matthews. And it broke that dam for me and I was able to let them out. It was very much needed. If you can, could you please play that again. Thank you, Sean in Seattle

Pronounced "Tuh-coh-cuh-tee" ... if you are Troy. :) -- I understand construction in WA has been suspended for a little bit, except for critical infrastructure projects. Hopeful the West Seattle Bridge counts, but right behind it in priority should be "Bridge to Hawaii" by TacoCat. Hope you or someone else can spin that platter today. Looking forward to all this being behind us so I can make my annual trip to Seattle this fall, and make my annual contribution to KEXP in person. Good luck, and you're not alone either. I am sheltering at home in Minneapolis. My siblings are in Milwaukee, WI and Bend, OR. Tonight we are trying out a long distance karaoke party to try to have some fun while standing on the edge of the void. I plan to start things off with Metric's Help I'm Alive. Take care this weekend! Thanks for keeping me feeling connected this week. I was telling my friend Zack in NYC (who introduced me to your show back in 2004 when we lived in DC) that John in the Morning is how I crisis. Always love! Rebecca

Hey John, Hello here from Brooklyn -- haven't left the apartment in over a week now with my husband and 2 year-old. Trying to stay sane while hearing these numbers of cases climb by thousands overnight in NY. I really miss getting annoyed at other New Yorkers in public and on the subway, never would have thought I'd say that. I cry every damn time I think of my fellow New Yorkers cramped into their tiny apartments not at all designed for quarantine. To remind ourselves that this IS temporary, can you play the live version of The Waiting with Tom Petty and Eddie Vedder? Love to everyone at KEXP for being a beacon of light during this very strange time. Xo

I woke up to 15 messages on a group text I have with my family. I knew what it meant: my dad passed away during the night. He joins my mom, his eternal dance partner, 2 years and 352 days later. He has lived in a nursing home in Everett for the past 10 years. I live in PA but was able to get home to see him in February and in his way, he acknowledged I was there. On my wedding day our song was Edelweiss because I could manage dancing a waltz but that isn't my song request. We also danced to "At the River" by Groove Armada. He liked the original, "Old Cape Cod" by Patti Page so it was a good mix for old and new for us. Would you be able to play "At the River"? Of course we can't have a funeral soon but hoping we will be able to head up to their favorite ski trails this summer near Snoqualmie and have a celebration of life then. Thank you as always for the music. Lisa

When Songfacts spoke with Thomas Dolby in 2011, he told us that he wrote this '80s classic so he could direct a video using a silent movie motif in the style of the old Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton films. Said Dolby: "This was just when music videos were starting to come to the fore, and I was very keen to try out my talent as a music video director. I was pretty much writing it to accompany a video."
