Klara Soderberg started writing lyrics for "Stay Gold" after reading Robert Frost's classic poem, 'Nothing Gold Can Stay.' "I had this collection of poetry, and I thought, 'I'll open this and see if there's anything in here that inspires me,' and I came upon the line 'Nothing gold can stay,'" she said. "That was literally the first thing I saw, and it was perfect."

Bonny Light Horseman formed when Fruit Bats singer Eric D. Johnson heard his friends Josh Kaufman and Anaïs Mitchell were getting together to revisit ancient folk songs. “This record is about timeless humanity,” Johnson says. “These 500-year-old lyrics are so deeply applicable. ‘The Roving’ could be the plot of an ’80s teen movie."

Singer/songwriter Eef Barzelay, aka "Clem Snide" tells the story of this new album. "About ten years ago, everything just seemed to fall apart," he explains. "The band bottomed out, my marriage was crumbling, I lost my house, and I had to declare bankruptcy. That started this process of ego death for me, where I realized the only way to survive would be to transcend myself and to try to find some kind of deeper, spiritual relationship with life and with being. Once I committed myself to that, miraculous things started to happen."

“The album is a record reflecting human feeling in the current state of affairs — economy and politics on the individual, while the latter still has to deal with the basic struggles of finding meaning of their existence."

Frontman Ian Devaney says "I was listening to a version of OMD’s “Electricity.” They were wielding this technology as a blunt instrument, and it felt like I had been given permission to do the same."

“Ceremony is what Phantogram is to us,” Sarah Barthel says. “Everyone has their own ceremony and they don’t have to relate to anyone else’s, but Phantogram is our ceremony: our process, our ritual. Playing shows is our ceremony for everyone. And for us.”

This song is about "Unlimited economic growth has the marvelous quality of stilling discontent while maintaining privilege, a fact that has not gone unnoticed among liberal economists." Oh wait, that's a Noam Chomsky quote. This song is actually about, well, sex...on wheels.
