The Funkees were an afro-rock group formed in Nigeria in the late 1960s. Originating as an army band after the Nigerian Civil War, they contributed to the outpouring of upbeat music produced by young people in Nigeria in response to the darkness of the recently concluded civil conflict. They moved to London in 1973 and quickly gained prominence in the West African and West Indian music scene, before fragmenting four years later. They specialized in a brand of funky, upbeat, highly danceable afro-rock that often featured lyrics sung in Igbo, as well as English.

The last three songs on the album ("I Would Die 4 U", "Baby I'm A Star" and the title track "Purple Rain") were recorded live at the 3 August 1983 First Avenue show in Minneapolis, although overdubs and edits took place on all three in September 1983; this marked Prince's first album to include live recordings.
“We wanted to create a song that they could make a dance out of,” said Leon “Ndugu” Chancler in The Billboard Book of Number One Rhythm & Blues Hits. “A song that was different in that it would be something that no one had ever really talked about on a record.” He added, “What kind of lyric content could we talk about that could end up being a dance? And Reggie [Andrews] came up with the idea of a whip.”

After 28 years together, Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt married in 2009, have individually written several highly-acclaimed books, and enjoy exploring the UK via rail. "Missing" was recorded as a relaxed-sounding guitar-based popular music song that had earned modest broadcasting airplay on US Adult Contemporary radio. The duo gave the track to house music producer Todd Terry to remix for nightclubs. Thorn later explained to Rolling Stone that the song was originally intended as a dance-oriented track: "It was written with that idea in mind, totally... we put on sort of a laid back house groove instead. Then when we gave it to Todd, he took it in a really, really strong New York house direction, which had a real simplicity to it, but it was very infectious." bit.ly

Yeule is the musical project of Singaporean songwriter and producer Nat Ćmiel. She says about the album, "I took the metaphor of the scar to represent each song, and each scar remains soft. Whether you’re healing from emotional trauma or a physical wound, time never heals a scar completely. There’s no more pain, but you can still see the mark afterward. I have a deep feeling that the things my ancestors went through got passed down; there’s some trauma that just sticks. There was always decay and distortion in my life, there’s always been something wrong or ugly. So the scar reminds me that I’m being protected, and I should protect myself."
