On “Noid,” Tumor’s lyrics grapple with police brutality, especially the effect it has on people who may not have been targeted directly, but watch their communities suffer from it daily. The Andreas Browning-directed clip captures Tumor as he walks through the streets of Los Angeles, cutting to shots of surveillance cameras, cop cars and, most harrowing, a sequence in which Tumor struggles against two heavily-armed and -armored cops. bit.ly yves-tumor.bandcamp.com

Joan Jett was touring England as a member of an all teenage girl group called The Runaways when she discovered this song. She wanted to record it with The Runaways, but the other members didn't like the song and made the mistake of passing it up. In 1979, Jett recorded it with Paul Cook and Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols and released it as a B-side. Finally, in 1981, Jett recorded the song with her band The Blackhearts, resulting in a monster hit.

"Wait Til I Get Over," the singer's debut solo album, is a reflection on Jones’ relationship to his hometown of Hillaryville, LA, a town first established as a form of reparations to previously enslaved Black Americans. The album grapples with his desire to leave the complicated town and his urge to honor his roots. This deeply personal song reflects on Jones’ first queer relationship and the mixed feelings he felt about “taboo” love. Jones explained: "I dedicate this one to a cajun dude out near Lafayette, Louisiana. Back in the day, our bond and love for another was so close and intense, that it overwhelmed me. I began to be scared of it and ashamed. I found myself in a flurry trying to find the feelings when I said I would be so many things for him.” Watch the beautiful video: youtu.be durand-jones.com

The premise with ‘Circulus Vitiosus Remixes’ is simple, to pair vocal-led reinterpretations with club-focused versions across a series of drops. Depending on which side of VTSS has ensnared you thus far there’s something to latch on to, and Maja has taken full control over who gets to mess around with her music. There are surprises in store and enough heat to set a freezer aflame, all delivered with distinctive artwork for each version. The first drop in a series of upcoming remixes lands a heavy blow from the get-go with Isabella Lovestory’s re-voiced twist on “Make You Scream” facing off with Tim Reaper’s blistering jungle techno annihilation of “Body Mind Hell”. vtss.bandcamp.com

ill peach says of this new song: “We wrote “BLAH BLAH BLAH” around the time Roe v. Wade was overturned, which was a very sensitive and heartbreaking day. It felt like a huge step backwards in women’s rights. The song describes the repetitive cycle of birthing out sons and daughters and then ultimately being consumed by mother earth herself. Yet the world sees women as weak forces. Defining all of it with the phrase ‘blah, blah, blah’ felt like the epitome.”

Ill Communication was unleashed on this day in 1994! "I got this f**king thorn in my side..." The lyrics were written about an annoying engineer named Mario Caldato Jr., who got frustrated with the slow pace of Beasties' recording sessions. The trio felt he was sabotaging their music by trying to push through instrumental tracks they were unhappy with in order to get something completed. -- The video, which was directed by Spike Jonze, was a parody of '70s cop shows such as CHiPs and Hawaii Five-0. It featured the three Beasties with shaggy hair and huge sunglasses, running around the city chasing a man with a briefcase and doing other cop stuff.: www.youtube.com

Sea Lemon will be playing the Capitol Hill Block Party on Friday, July 21st. -- Sea Lemon is musician Natalie Lew. On this new track, Lew offers: “‘Cellar’ was inspired by my love of really classic horror and thriller films, like Blow Out and Misery, and how loving scary movies can sometimes feel like something is wrong with you. That idea of the ‘cellar’ in the song is based on the traditional horror trope where the protagonist can’t help but discover what’s lurking in the basement, and that what they find there often represents something really dark and horrifying. In the lyrics, I say ‘the cellar is where I belong’ which is me grappling with this idea that sometimes really terrifying imagery interests me the most.”: northerntransmissions.com
