Seattle house producer djhouseplants.bandcamp.com DJ Houseplants is a new alias of Seattle-based DJ, producer, and designer Justin Av. He first made a splash on the local music scene as HansmJustin, spinning rap at festivals and clubs around town, co-hosting the beloved monthly rap party FR FR, and creating his own trap-leaning rap songs. Now using the DJ Houseplants alias, Justin makes addictive lo-fi house tunes with an introspective touch, and he recently dropped his label debut EP titled 'Root Bound' on Melbourne's clipp.art Records. His exclusive guest DJ mix for Midnight in a Perfect World effortlessly glides through lush underground house rhythms that consistently carry a warm, melodic, fuzzy touch. www.mixcloud.com

Seattle’s Who Is She? includes Robin Edwards (Lisa Prank), Bree Mckenna (Tacocat), Julia Shapiro (Chastity Belt), and their newest member Emily Nokes (Tacocat), and have announced their new album Goddess Energy, will drop on August 25, 2023 via Father/Daughter Records. On the track, the band offers, "We are big fans of day of the week songs like 'Manic Monday' and 'Friday I’m in Love,' and we realized there weren’t enough songs about Thursday. So we decided to write one!" An album named in tribute to the kindest diss anyone could deliver, when the collective’s longtime friend Aaron Greene once politely declined to have lunch with them because it would be "too much goddess energy." As in all things Who Is She?, an inside joke amongst friends becomes so much more. bit.ly

"In California, Naomi Wild was wrestling her own bout of writer’s block. The aspiring singer thought back to a time of inspiration, the moment she saw ODESZA perform during a Do Lab curated event. “I just remember being like ‘wow I wish I could go up there,'” she says. “‘I wish I was part of something like that.'” She sent the recording to her manager and asked if there was any way he could get her vocal to the Seattle duo. Incredibly, it reached them, and it sparked the flame that became “Higher Ground” and the foundation for the full, Grammy-nominated album A Moment Apart." Lead singer Justice McLellan explains, “the track is a song about caring so deeply about someone who’s struggling that you abandon yourself. I’ve had some of the closest people in my life suffering from addictions, which can take their toll on surrounding people. The chorus leads to a grief ladened admittance of ‘I thought that I had control / that I could help you work it out / but I’m sadly mistaken.’ It’s a reflection on how my interference with someone else’s struggle, although coming from an earnest place, can cause more harm than good.”www.youtube.com

All the highs of being in love and how ridiculously unlike yourself it can make you act. All the day dreaming you do about what things could be and how they might go. There’s always a catch, though, and in this story, as soon as you reach out to grab “love” and have it in your hands, you drop it. Here's the video: www.youtube.com
