New Music! From Seattle collective High Pulp!
“We’re a bunch of outsiders who refused to be kept out,” says High Pulp drummer Bobby Granfelt. “We’ve never had an academic approach to jazz—most of us grew up playing in DIY bands—so it was the rawness and the energy and the absolute freedom of the music that called to us in the first place.”
Beautiful video!

This album rules!!! Fourth single released from Anderson.Paak's critically-acclaimed sophomore album 'Malibu.'
Everything Everywhere All At Once is the best movie you will ever see in your life.
Soundtrack composed by Son Lux!
Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as Daniels, the film is a hilarious and big-hearted sci-fi action adventure about an exhausted Chinese American woman (Michelle Yeoh) who can't seem to finish her taxes.
This track is cinematic excellence and it's no wonder the Ryan Lott fronted project could make the perfect score for Everything Everywhere All At Once www.slashfilm.com
“Bad things happen, the fire goes out; even with the best flammables it stays dark until nothing matters becomes the fire itself,” singer Channy Leaneagh explained of the soaring, layered song in a statement. She added that the lyrics on the album represent the idea that, “I am here for you all and I am never truly myself here. I am her for you all and I am never truly her.”
From their ninth studio album. Underworld's Rick Smith came up with the title of the album from his father. Rick's mother's name is Barbara; she told Rick's father that she was fearful of the future without him, and Rick's father replied "Barbara, Barbara, we face a shining future" - bit.ly

Lorely Rodriguez, aka Empress Of, just released her first new song of 2022 which the pop artist describes as “one of my favorite songs I have ever made.”
She continued, “I’ve never put live strings on a recording before, it was very emotional. There’s a sexual urgency. There’s a power play. I think it’s one of the sexiest songs I’ve made.”
Empress Of played live on KEXP (at home) in 2020. Check out her full performance here: www.youtube.com

The brand new single from English duo, Let’s Eat Grandma, is “about feeling all over the place, escaping to your imagination and being in a disorientating and surreal mental state, which can be both scary and elevating somehow”. Rosa Walton, who makes one-half the duo along with Jenny Hollingworth, continued in a press release: “"You’re with someone you’re close to, trying to reach out and connect to them, and even though you’re both struggling, you’re able to find comfort in one another, and have an absurdly funny yet meaningful time together. You begin to see some hope in your future again after a time when you’d started to lose sight of that.”
Don’t miss their new album out April 29th via Transgressive Records.

Schoolteacher by day, searing pop-punk wunderkind by night, Vietnamese-American artist Monét Ngo is a man of many talents. His debut single "Lonestar" showcases more than a few of those talents, on an inspiring coming-of-age alternative ballad about dealing with loneliness and anxiety.
"'Lonestar' was written at one of the lowest points in my life. It was a time where I was feeling a lot of social anxiety amongst my peers and I was dwelling on past mistakes and conversations," Ngo relates, "I was at a turning point in my life where I wasn’t sure who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do next with my future. Should I follow the safe route and pursue teaching, or should I work even harder to pursue my dream with music. The aggressive tone of the song sets the tone for me trying to come to terms with all these sources of anxiety within my life."
“There was 50 versions of 'White Ferrari,'” Frank Ocean told The New York Times in 2016. “I have a 15-year-old little brother, and he heard one of the versions, and he's like, 'You gotta put that one out, that's the one. ' And I was like, 'Naw, that's not the version,' because it didn't give me peace yet.”

Join KEXP for 6 Degrees of Dolly Parton on Friday, April 22nd. All day long, DJs will be linking each song to the one they played before, beginning with, weaving in and out of, and ending with the music of the Queen of Country herself, Dolly Parton. We'll make connections through guest vocals, shared musicians, samples, and more, but songs are selected totally on the fly and without pre-planning. Let's celebrate the impact Dolly has made on music with live human-powered radio. It's 6 Degrees of Dolly Parton, live on Friday April 22nd and on-demand after the broadcast.

Across three discs of rough-hewed yet honeyed music, this three-disc set captures the cosmopolitan scene of Africa’s post-colonial Upper Volta in the 1960s and ’70s.
As musician Pete Wareham puts it: “We don’t fit the archetype. For too long this has felt like a problem, now we have the opportunity to say: We don’t fit in, we’re in the cracks, we’re ourselves.”
Gaya adds: “In everything I create there is a tension between wanting to fit in, to feel included and the fear of losing my culture or forgetting where I am from. The refusal to fit in whatever narrative an African man of Asian appearance should play in western society. I started not really caring so much, not second-guessing myself or my vocals so much, which was a huge hurdle to overcome.”
The Halluci Nation (formerly known as A Tribe Called Red) will play Neumos on May 6!

Lead singer Billy Corgan wrote this about making the transition out of youth and into adulthood. He remembered being in high school and having adult responsibilities like a car and job, but still being very much a youth and dependent on his parents.
On the song Taleen says:
'Flower Of Life' is about coming back to life after the trials and tribulations of the Trump administration, Me Too movement, BLM, and the pandemic. I wrote this song for us to rage to, dance to, scream to. Now that it’s safe to be together again, we can let it all out. This song has about 10 guitars packed into 2 minutes, which is twice the amount of guitars we’ve ever put on a recording. It’s our battle-cry of making it through to the other side. Flower Of Life is also what I’m naming the album.

JK she was at Barboza on Sunday, April 10th! BUT stay tuned for SASAMI's KEXP session soon!
The video for this track was directed by Euphoria costume designer Heidi Bivens, styled by Euphoria assistant costume designer Angelina Vitto, with make-up by Euphoria and Pen15 make-up artist Alexandra French.
Of the song and video, Los Angeles-based SASAMI says "'Make It Right' is an ode to Fleetwood Mac’s more tantrum-y vibes with a hair of Crass-y marching snare. She’s a desperation bop about not being communicated with. I love a fuzzy riff." bit.ly
