Dutch-Croatian singer-songwriter Marina Tadic sort of accidentally started her group Eerie Wanda while she was working post-art school as guitarist for Amsterdam band Earth Mk. II. At some point, one of Tadic's bedroom demo tapes found its way to Jasper Verhulst, the bassist of Jacco Gardner, who soon thereafter decided to join forces with her. Dummer Nic Niggebrugge, also of Jacco Gardner, and Bram Vervaet followed suit, and together they became the band now known as Eerie Wanda.

Mavis Staples new album If All I Was Was Black consists of ten songs about contemporary America today, a present day filled with ghosts of the past. "Nothing has changed," Mavis remarked in early August, just days before neo-Nazis marched with swastika flags in Charlottesville, Virginia, as a young woman was murdered. According to the band’s guitarist Derek Miller, inspiration for the new material for the album "Kid Kruschev" came pretty quickly thanks to singer Alexis Krauss’ new home in the more rural areas of New York City, where she embraced the isolation from the city’s traditional hustle and bustle.
