Sub Pop recently signed Perfect Son (Tobiasz Biliński), and will release the 10-track Cast, his label debut, on February 15th, 2019. This marks the band’s fourth studio album, first in five years, and named for the hurricane of current events that swirled around its creation. The band was approximately halfway through recording when the 2016 presidential election took place. Benjamin Goldwasser recalls, en route to producer Dave Fridmann’s studios in Buffalo, New York, “Up until that point we had our own self-imposed rules for how much a song should be about a specific thing. When the election happened it was like, here’s this very real thing that has a direct impact on us and a lot of people. It sort of eliminated the question of what we were writing about.”

The Cardigans were formed when two heavy metal fanatics got together in Jonkoping, Sweden in October, 1992. The song was was featured in Baz Luhrmanns' Romeo + Juliet just two months after the release of the single, as well as in the 1999 film Cruel Intentions and the 2007 comedy Decameron Pie.

Oxnard was mixed and produced by Dr. Dre and follows a trilogy of California city-named albums: 2014’s Venice and 2016’s breakout record Malibu. The record features Pusha-T, J. Cole, Q-Tip, Snoop Dogg, and Kadhja Bonet and was released November 16.
During the creation of this album, Bradford Cox reveals, "I was very influenced by contemporary harpsichord music — a lot of Spanish composers, Genoveva Gálvez. A lot of people hear the harpsichord and think about baroque pop, and I strongly put my hand up at that. 'No, no, no, no.' I enjoy the actual acoustics and temper of that instrument — the velocity, the rhythmic pushback. It’s not a liquid instrument, it’s very hard. It’s not a psychedelic instrument, and I hate psychedelic music. People always used to call Cryptograms psychedelic, and I would go, 'No — it’s concrète.' It’s not pink and warm and fuzzy. It’s bloodstained and visceral.
But, yes, the harpsichord I was very interested in. Prokofiev. I was listening to a lot of Stravinsky. I know, a lot of pretentious answers. Thelonius Monk was someone I was listening to a lot. How that influenced the record, your guess is good as mine. Charles Ives was a huge influence. We covered one of his songs on Double Dream Of Spring. Certainly not a lot of contemporary influences. Whitney Houston’s 'How Will I Know' and 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' — those were huge influences on “Plains.” I was inspired by her vocal performance, but in no way did I try to sing — she’s not someone you can imitate. I was very influenced by that sound, and I don’t mean it in a retro-nostalgic way — what’s inside the sound. I didn’t want any kind of retro." bit.ly

Cure for Pain is the second album by alternative rock band Morphine, released through Rykodisc in 1993. Jerome Deupree, the band's original drummer, quit due to health problems during the recording of the album and was replaced by Billy Conway. The Massachusetts band coined the label "low rock" to describe their music, which involved "a minimalist, low-end sound."
Jackson Stell, known by his stage name of Big Wild, is an electronic DJ, producer, composer, and engineer. In 2015, through Stell's Soundcloud, the Seattle-based electronic music duo ODESZA, had been exposed to his music and enjoyed it. ODESZA asked Stell to open for them at the San Francisco and LA stops of their tour, and Stell eventually joined them on their whole tour after he finished and released his remix of ODESZA's track "Say My Name." bit.ly
Foxxxy Mulder is a long-distance collaborative project between Kori Hensell and David Kumler. Heretic is their debut LP, drawing heavily on early post-punk and dream pop. It covers a broad, yet distinctly unified, range of emotional and sonic territory.

Mount Kimbie is an English electronic music duo which formed in 2008, consisting of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos. Campos is originally from St. Austell in Cornwall, while Maker is from Brighton. They met at Southbank University in London, where Campos was having another go at university and Maker was studying film.They started making music together at a home studio in Peckham, and have collaborated with artists such as James Blake, King Krule, and Micachu. bit.ly
Trish Keenan, co-founder and frontwoman of the Birmingham electronica band, explained the inspiration behind this song was generated by reactions to a tabloid cryptic crossword. She tragically died in 2011 from complications from pneumonia.
Valerie Teicher (born 4 October 1990), best known by her stage name Tei Shi, is a Colombian and Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer based in New York City. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Colombian parents, she spent her childhood in Bogotá, then her family later moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and afterwards moved to New York City. She released her first singles and music videos in 2013, also performing live for the first time at CMJ. Tei Shi released her debut extended play, Saudade, in November 2013, which Noisey described as a "layered masterpiece of melodies... expertly entwined vocal loops, and shivery sonics." bit.ly
Cherry Glazerr is set to release their fourth studio album on February 1st and embark on an international tour that same month, and will be performing at Neumos on March 7th. Of this album, frontwoman Clem Creevy notes, "With Apocalipstick, I was an over-confident teenager trying to solve the world’s problems. With Stuffed & Ready, I’m a much more weary and perhaps a more cynical woman who believes you need to figure your own self out first.”

Love and Rockets were an English alternative rock band formed in 1985 by former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash (vocals, guitar and saxophone), David J (bass guitar and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums and synthesisers) after that group split in 1983. Ash and Haskins had recorded and performed in another band, Tones on Tail, between 1982 and 1984. Love and Rockets' fusion of underground rock music with elements of pop music provided an early catalyst for alternative rock. The eponymous album, the band's fourth studio effort, featured their biggest hit, the Ash-penned "So Alive," which became the band's best-selling album in America. bit.ly

Daniel Johnston is a cult figure rather than an artist with a mainstream following for two important reasons: while Johnston is a truly gifted songwriter, his lyrics are often so painfully intimate and obsessively personal that much of his best work is difficult to listen to without feeling like a voyeur, and his skills as a performer are rudimentary at best, with Johnston's quavering, tuneless voice and primitive instrumental accompaniment enough to drive away most listeners unless they're determined to listen past the inept technique to hear the songs hidden within. bit.ly

Tom Tom Club is an American new wave band formed in 1981 by wife and husband Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, both of whom were members of Talking Heads. This song's lyrics pay tribute to many notable black musicians and singers, including George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Smokey Robinson, Bob Marley, Sly and Robbie, Kurtis Blow, Hamilton Bohannon, and James Brown.

Sydney indie rockers Middle Kids released their wrongfully slept-on self-titled debut on Domino earlier this year — “Bought It” in particular is worth your time — but they’re already back with a new song today. “Salt Eyes” was recorded at Ryan Adams’ PAX-AM Studio, and that fact is helping me hear much Middle Kids have in common with Adams’ Americana-infused classic rock.
Matt Friedberger and his sister, Eleanor, record as "Fiery Furnaces": "We'd like to play for little kids and in old folks' homes and play in nasty bars as well. The music we want to play is more catholic - it's a big enough mess that whether it's the old folk or the kids, they could find something amusing. Hopefully, it is really silly, shiny music. I want it to have a broken toy sound. And also a piano singalong thing. I always like the idea of families entertaining themselves by singing, like every member of a family has a special song they sing when they get drunk enough, a Cole Porter song or whatever. Hynes describes Negro Swan as “an exploration into my own and many types of black depression, an honest look at the corners of black existence, and the ongoing anxieties of queer/people of color. A reach back into childhood and modern traumas, and the things we do to get through it all. The underlying thread through each piece on the album is the idea of HOPE, and the lights we can try to turn on within ourselves with a hopefully positive outcome of helping others out of their darkness.”

The band formed in 1983 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their original lineup consisted of vocalist and keyboardist Rodney Linderman ("Rodney Anonymous"), guitarist and vocalist Joe Genaro ("Joe Jack Talcum"), bassist Dave Schulthise ("Dave Blood") and drummer Dean Sabatino ("Dean Clean").
The band distinguished itself in the hardcore punk scene of the early 1980s through its jangly punk sound and sardonic humor delivered with thick Philadelphia accents. They attracted college radio attention with their 1985 debut album, Big Lizard in My Backyard, and the song "Bitchin' Camaro". Extensive touring and further releases helped the band garner an underground following. bit.ly

Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel both grew up on the Upper West Side of New York City and attended elementary school together. They were later part of a hip hop group called Automato, whose debut album was produced by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy of DFA. After the release of the album, Automato "kind of fell apart." However, Millhiser and Frankel kept working on music. Initially it was going to be more hip hop work, but decided to create music with vocals and poppier arrangements. The name Holy Ghost! was selected just before the pressing of their debut single "Hold On" in November 2007. bit.ly
