Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1974, Gui Boratto began working as a producer, audio engineer and multi-instrumentalist in the early '90s. After countless licenses from major international major labels, he started dedicating his time to his own music, stringing together various strands of pop-infused techno and house and translating them into his very own stream of groove consciousness. kompakt.fm

Marika Hackman will be live at Neumos on November 1st! // “This whole record is me diving into myself and peeling back the skin further and further, exposing myself in quite a big way. It can be quite sexual,” Hackman says. “It’s blunt, but not offensive. It’s mischievous.” bit.ly

Yup! Frankie covered the ENTIRE "Seventeen Seconds" by The Cure.
"Pets" deals with dissatisfaction with the human race ("Adults are even more f**ked up") and how it is on the brink of destruction ("My friend says we're like the dinosaurs only we are doing ourselves in much faster than they ever did"). The song then describes how aliens might be able to take over the world and treat humans as pets.
Raphael Saadiq's first album in eight years, Jimmy Lee, will be out August 23rd. Saadiq self-produced 'Jimmy Lee' and recorded it at Blakeslee Recording Co. in North Hollywood. According to a press release, the LP features contributions from Kendrick Lamar, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Brook D’Leau.

Widely considered a cult classic, Inspiration Information was Otis' debut project as both an adult and a producer, having been a teenager backed on his two previous solo efforts by his father, Johnny Otis. The change of overseeing the production himself would result in a less traditional approach to songwriting. In addition, the utilization of analog drum machines gave 'Inspiration' a newer electric sound that at the time were being used by only a handful of Otis' contemporaries.
New single from the band's upcoming compilation 'Everything Hits At Once: The Best of Spoon.' // "The idea of doing a best-of came to us a couple times," Britt Daniel says in a press release announcing the record. "First I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but at some point I remembered that when I got my first Cure record it was Standing on a Beach. When I got my first New Order record, it was Substance. That was how I met those bands, and I moved backwards from there but I still listen to those comps."
Kyle and the members of Showboat Honey worked at such a feverish wine-fueled pace that they actually ended up with two completely different albums. But at the end of the day, they decided to combine the two into what is now Showboat Honey, a moonstruck rock ’n’ roll record teeming with reckless abandon.
“We thought we had the album done at one point. But at the last minute, I was like, ‘S--t, this isn’t the album. This isn’t it,’” Kyle says. “It was just a gut feeling. I’m glad for that because I feel like I ended up writing some of the best songs I’ve ever written.” bit.ly
'Strung Out in Heaven' is named after a lyric from the David Bowie song "Ashes to Ashes"

Fruit Bats’ Gold Past Life marks both an end and a beginning. It’s the end of an unintentional thematic trilogy of records from Eric D. Johnson that began with 2014’s EDJ (a solo record by name, but a Fruit Bats release in spirit) and hit an emotional peak with 2016’s Absolute Loser. www.mergerecords.com

It felt like there was a darker edge to what we were coming up with and we wanted to make sure that carried through the whole record,” said bassist Thomas Walmsley. “It’s not a ten track, relentless rock record from start to finish, it’s got a lot of light and shade and more tender moments, but that heavier, darker sound is something we wanted to explore further.” bit.ly

Just as she takes up space in the male-dominated Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area punk scene, Sneaks aka Eva Moolchan takes up space among the patriarchy. Highway Hypnosis plays on hip-hop, post-punk, and invented words to fill a gap between the feminist underground and genre-specific singles charts. Through it, Moolchan joins the resistance forged by queer black feminists who create, explore, empower, conquer, and play bass.
Common Marker will play at the Crocodile on September 5th!
While very little is known about SAULT, they've created one of the strongest debuts and all-around albums of the year with 5. The sparse info online indicates they're a trio and a website claims one member is London-based musician Dean “Inflo” Josiah, who's collaborated with Jungle, Little Simz, and Michael Kiwanuka, to name a few. That last bit of information seems likely, as this stunning album is a masterful fusion of psychedelic, funky, groovy soul/pop featuring dynamic female vocals that's further distinguished by its use of breakbeats. Fuzzy, addictive, and packed with undeniable jams, this is one of the hidden gems of 2019. — DJ Alex Ruder

Sampa The Great creates a sense of home on her debut album - “The Return”. A characterful record, its reference points range from classic hip-hop to ancient Southern African sounds. Built on four years of personal and musical soul-searching, it’s an assured statement, the product of meaningful musical connections and of Sampa having to redefine her self-identity away from the comforts of family and old friends.

On It’s Real, the group’s second album, Ex Hex’s commitment to larger-than-life riffs and unforgettable hooks remains intact, but the garage-y, post-punk approach that defined their debut album Rips has grown in scale and ambition.
