DJ Shadow is on tour and will be performing in Anaheim, CA, October 31st! A few years prior to the recording of the album, Canadian electronic musician Dan Snaith's wife gave him swimming lessons as a Christmas present, prompting him to take it up as a new hobby. This partially led to the eventual ideology behind Swim, which is awash with aquatic sonics. Snaith said that the lessons blended into his growing fixation with fluidity in music and the ability to achieve that with his army of electronic instruments. He explained, "I wanted to make dance music where all the elements would sound like water and have these waves that flow around in the mix." bit.ly

David “Trugoy The Dove” Jolicoeur, one-third of the iconic rap trio De La Soul, died in 2023 at the age of 54. No cause of death has been given, but he had been open about his bout with congestive heart failure in recent years. David Jude Jolicoeur was born in Brooklyn, New York, but grew up on Long Island. The members of De La Soul were friends who attended the same high school in the Amityville area of Long Island during the 1980s. After they decided to form a rap group, each member re-christened themselves with an outlandish name (Trugoy the Dove, P.A. Pasemaster Mase and Posdnuos, respectively).

A classic! www.interpolnyc.com In a 2018 interview with Vice about Turn On the Bright Lights, their debut album, Paul Banks of Interpol stated: "as far as ease of making it, we had years to write these songs. The longest writing period of any of your records is your debut. We formed in 1997, so it’s five years, and three-and-a-half/four of playing shows and trying out that material. So it went down smoothly in the studio, and then you have all the excitement of it being your first album. It was a good time in our lives."

“Batdance,” Prince’s fourth #1 single, isn’t a dance, and it’s only barely a song. “Batdance” is a stitched-together six-minute monstrosity, is full of Batman dialogue samples and clips from Prince tracks that Batman director Tim Burton had rejected. It’s virtually impossible to judge “Batdance” as a standalone piece of music because “Batdance” was never intended as a standalone piece of music. Instead, it’s a marketing tool. But it’s Prince’s version of a marketing tool, so it’s a weird marketing tool. Read all about it here: www.stereogum.com -- You can watch Mr. Prince doing the "Batdance" here:www.youtube.com
