Beck and French electro-pop band Phoenix are touring together this summer and will play Climate Pledge Arena on Tuesday, August 1st!
Their collaboration, “Odyssey,” finds common ground in synthesizer-centered 1980s pop, specifically Talking Heads’ 1980 “Once in a Lifetime” plus a lot of marimba or xylophone overdubs.

After a short-lived reunion in 2016, Lush suddenly came to an end once again. "I thought we were in it for the long term, so some of these songs – or even just parts of them – were actually going to be for Lush," Anderson explained. "That didn’t happen, so I had these songs and bits of music that I didn’t know what to do with." Anderson worked on the album with producer James Chapman, and was encouraged by Cocteau Twins’ Robin Guthrie to sing her own songs on the album. "He basically said, 'If you don’t sing, I am not going to do it,' so I decided I would," Anderson said. Dee Dee's mother died during the course of a year during the writing and recording of 'Only in Dreams'. This song was written about her mom's final few days and the way Dee Dee disengaged emotionally. She explained: "I think it's a common reaction that people, myself included, want to disengage when something's that overwhelming. It's why people go out and get wasted when they have bad news. I was on a serious attempt to not deal with what was going on and trying to stay as out of it as possible, because it was just an overwhelming situation, coming in and out of being forced to realize what was going on. The group's lead singer Francis Rossi wrote this song - he was still a teenager and it was just the second tune he had ever composed. This song was inspired by the matchstick men paintings of L.S. Lowry (1887-1976). Lowry was an English painter who became famous for painting scenes of life in the industrial districts of northern England during the middle of the 20th century.
