Released in 2007, '23' is Blonde Redhead's seventh studio album. AllMusic wrote that on '23', Blonde Redhead "trades the cloistered chamber rock of 'Butterfly' for tone-bending dream pop and subtle electronics; while the wide open spaces sound a little bare at first, this streamlined approach ends up making this Blonde Redhead's loveliest and most accessible work yet..... The epic title track's delicate electronic rhythms, swooping, shimmering guitars, and majestically bittersweet melody pitch it somewhere between My Bloody Valentine and Asobi Seksu, showing how a more restrained Blonde Redhead can still sound lush and haunting." www.allmusic.com

German producer Marius Lauber performs as Roosevelt. He just announced the upcoming album 'Polydans,' due out in February 2021. He's calling it a "love letter to dance music", and from the sound of this track, that feeling is spot on. In a press release, Roosevelt says “Feels Right” is about the “feeling of stoic empowerment. When I wrote the song, it began with an ESG-influenced funk loop, which even in its rawest form had something very euphoric and playful. It’s definitely one of the songs on the album that came together really easily — one of these where the song dictates which direction to go rather than you overthinking it for weeks.” acidstag.com iamroosevelt.bandcamp.com

MorMor is Seth Nyquist, the Toronto-based singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist and had this to say about his first release of the 2020: “Though I tried to continue writing [in March] it didn’t feel right. I was told I was being hard on myself, but I have always used music as a way of making sense of things. Suddenly there were just too many things to make sense of: A Global pandemic, the sudden lockdown, shortly followed by the protests. Voices were raised around the world because people have had enough. Mourning has become so painful that people are demanding changes. I felt I had to reflect that.” diymag.com Seth Nyqust (MorMor) performed "Don't Cry" during a recent KEXP Live at Home session with Cheryl Waters: youtu.be

Songwriter/violinist Brittney Parks constructed Athena as an album to be heard end-to-end. It starts as biography, reaching back to remake "Did You Know" — the first song she recorded as a teenager — followed by "Confessions." "It’s about duality and this battle within your inner thoughts, and you’re trying to figure out what’s right and what’s wrong, and it leads to this sense of oneness where nothing’s really right and nothing’s really wrong. Your life is just crazy, girl! And it has this magical twist on it, and it’s supposed to be this soundtrack of the making of a goddess." www.nytimes.com sudanarchives.bandcamp.com

"Ireland’s abiding electropop queen" Róisín Murphy is also one half of triphop duo Moloko. Pitchfork wrote: “‘Murphy’s Law’ is our crack at a straight up, straightforward, no-frills, disco standard,” Róisín Murphy said in a statement. “Oh and it’s the story of my life. It’s about the nature of the past, it’s often a difficult thing to outrun but it can also be quite comforting. When is it valuable heritage, and when is it something that's holding you back? Time and time again I return to Sheffield and my friends there. I go when I need to reconnect to a scene and to music that’s about something! And to feel the belonging.” pitchfork.com

First single from the upcoming third album, 'A Billion Little Lights', from this NYC band, due to be released on February 19, 2021. In a press release, Wild Pink frontman John Ross talked about this track, which also features vocals from the Ratboys' Julia Steiner: "It was inspired by Carl Sagan’s Cosmos as well as “If I Needed You” by Townes Van Zandt, this song is named for a grim retirement home in Florida. It’s about somebody who was born sheltered realizing how large the world is and how unimportant they are. Julia Steiner’s vocal contributions brought the song to fruition, and it was a lot of fun to make. We spent a lot of time focusing on the drums and percussion, using a phone recording of some cicadas in a quieter part towards the end of the song, and I really like all the stuff Dan came up with like the Agogo bells and Rototoms." www.stereogum.com Check out the video featuring 'Schitt's Creek' actress Annie Murphy: youtu.be Pre-order the album here: wildpink.bandcamp.com

The Internet was formed in early 2011 by Odd Future members Syd and Matt Martians, along with touring members Patrick Paige, Christopher Smith, and Tay Walker. The band's name originally started out as a joke, inspired by Left Brain's answer to a reporter asking where he was from, to which he responded, "I hate when people ask me that, I'm going to start saying I'm from the Internet." The idea amused Syd, and inspired the name for her side project that eventually became The Internet. nyti.ms Check out The Internet Live on Streets Sound with Larry Mizell Jr. on KEXP: kexp.org

The daughter of Leftfield cofounder Neil Barnes, Georgia began her music career as a drummer for artists such as Kwes and Kate Tempest. 'Seeking Thrills' is her second album, released early in 2020. The album was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2020. “Making this record was a real journey, but an enjoyable journey,” she told NME. “I learned a lot about myself, a lot about how to make music, how to create in a way that’s true to me. I’ve set out the stones for future music and I really feel proud that this record is up for it.” bit.ly Shygirl guests on the slow, woozy "Mellow," which revisits the angular rhythms and deadpan vocals of the more grime-influenced tracks on Georgia's debut. georgiauk.com

In the first thirty seconds of William Onyeabor’s "Atomic Bomb," you hear a tambourine, a Moog synthesizer, an electric guitar, a bass, and a keyboard. A one-man operation, Onyeabor recorded the song in his own studio in Enugu, Nigeria, and self-released Atomic Bomb in 1978. Probably, Onyeabor was the first West African musician to record songs with synthesizers; certainly, he was the first to record them in a West African studio (his own) and then release them on a West African label (also his own). bit.ly
